Well?
1. Just because, you pommy puzzler. Go and post something serious.
2. Good question. I keep thinking "Smiliedom" like "kingdom". "The Smiliedrome" could be a lot better.

Its 'cause of Mad Max's Thunderdome. Or possibly Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Pleasuredome.

Yes, but the Thunderdome really was dome shaped (like an arch in rotation). I'm not sure about the Pleasuredome though.
I was thinking the -drome suffix just means a place where similar things go or perform. So we have for example a hippodrome for horses, a velodrome for bicycles and an aerodrome for aircraft. What could be more natural than a smiliedrome for smilies?
But actually -drome is from the Greek Dromos (racecourse) so I suppose it's not strictly suitable for non-racing smilies.
Palindrome is from the same 'racing' root, by the way - it means 'running backwards'.
And I thought you were thinking of Videodrome (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0086541/) (which I haven't seen).

I didn't know that about palindrome, cep. That's fascinating. Now, I didn't actually come up with the name; that was vm on an unstoppable roll.

If Rome were full of smilies, then we'd have a Smilied Rome. :)

Or if only Michael Palin could race himself over and over again...

That's exactly what I thought, and I have seen (and loved, btw) that movie.
Liv's right, I was thinking of the Thunderdome when I picked the name. Smiliedrome just doesn't quite carry the same force to me. I'm not opposed to changing it, though. If you can convince livius we'll do it. :)

Oh poop. Why do I always have to be the one who gets convinced? Hmm... I wonder if I could make a pout smiley?
Liv: :hypno: you want to change the name of this forum.
I have to admit as soon as I saw the word Smiliedome... I thought of Tina Turner in that chainmail outfit. :yup:

you could always invent your own dome (or drome!)-
"Bodacious cowboys
Such as your friend
Will never be welcome here
High in the Custerdome"
-Steely Dan, "Gaucho"
Nobody has yet to figure out what a Custerdome is... :chin:

In Forum Life did livius Khan
A stately smilie-dome decree:
Where Beta, the pixelated river, ran
Through forums measureless to man
Down to a virtual sea...

Not to mention Public Enemy: "Welcome to the Terrordome!" Which, of course, is how the title to the first thread went. Except that it was Smiliedome.
Forget about it, cep.

Hey that's funny. I probably did that subconsciously because I love Public Enemy. :yup:
