Hey! That's pretty cool, Crumb. :yup:

Nice!

You could add some blossom briefly in the spring, but I suppose that might be confusing.

I like it, Crumb :)

I can see the blossom in spring - or is it just my optimism? Anyway, a very cool tree!

Gorgeous, Crumb, both in idea and execution. The only critique I'd levy is that the transitions seem a bit brusque towards the end of the year. Otherwise, :2thumbsup:.

I don't like the big hole in the top middle, but otherwise cool.

Yes there are some blossoms. Pink ones. Maybe I should add more though...

The only critique I'd levy is that the transitions seem a bit brusque towards the end of the year.
I know. This is because there wasn't much to do with the snow. I could add a few frames in there though. (You know what we need is a program that will automatically create a transition frame halfway in between two images... I wonder if I could write such a thing... )

Well I was trying to give the tree some character.

Trees don't need no steenkin' character! They should all look the same!

You can do transitions like this with Animation Shop - gratuitous example:

Why not? It seems not to be worth the effort.

:( Well, I guess it depends on how you define worth. I suppose by most standards I've wasted more time than is even remotely reasonable. Cartwheel took me days, something like 20 hours, probably, and I still make changes to it.

I just really admire the pros like Fool or darkmoon and would very much like to be good enough to be able to produce work of their caliber and creativity.

I'm sorry you're down, Crumb. FWIW, I loved that you were all into it and making great original stuff right off the bat. I mean, until my breakthrough I just copied my betters. You've done something else entirely. I think it's awesome and very much worthwhile.

Crumb
05-12-2005, 02:33 AM
Well thanks, and I'll come around I'm sure. I guess I am in a sort of funk now. I had fun making them and if I think of one that gets me going I will probably make another. I just made this list of stuff I wanted to make, but I look at it now though and I just dont want to. :(

Sounds like you're in the 'challenge achieved - depressive stage'. Happens to virtually all of us after we achieve some goal. The bigger the goal achieved, the biggger and longer-lasting the depression that follows. If you're anticipating the down as you near the goal though, it seems to soften its impact.

Pretty soon you will have a new goal to work towards, and away you'll go - of course, the next goal might not be another smiley...

The curse of being creative... :kickcan:

What cep said.

If you're just in a funk, that's understandable. Funk off and come back to smilie creation when you feel the rush. It makes me thing how little I've felt like vbulletin coding since creating the smilie search feature. It's not that there aren't things worth doing, it's just not inspiring me...

That reminds me, it looks like they're sorting out persistent read marks for the next release, JoeP.

They're going into public beta next weekish. :) Here's the whole story:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138544

Database-Based Thread and Forum Read Marking

Yes, it's finally here! Now, instead of using cookies and inactivity timeouts to determine what should be considered unread versus read, you can now opt to track this via the database.

Individual threads are considered read only if you have actually read them. Also, as soon as you have read all threads in a forum, it's light bulb will go out; no need to visit the forum list!

Of course, it's also an option. Should you wish to stick with the original system, you'll be able to do so.

Oh and did I say: :bliss: :yay: :woohoo:

:yay: This is great news. It sounds like this will clear up all the annoying read/unread "features" of the forum. Very cool! :snoopy:
