What's missing? Bananas are inherently amusing. And broccoli too. Dancing apples just wouldn't be the same.

I think we need a dancing pineapple.

A tomato with more style could be a useful addition. Especially coupled with a potato. You say :danctomat:, I say :dancpotat:.

Hey, what about a dancing hand-grenade? Liiiiv, I said what about a dancing hand-grenade?

I gotcher dancing tomater right here: http://burningsmell.org/tomatodance.gif I couldn't add the hands without making it a huge smiley, and it's roundness makes up for that anyway.

livius drusus
05-14-2005, 03:30 AM
That's a mighty fine 'mater, Corona, but I think you really have to add the arms, huge or not. Otherwise it just doesn't make the set, you know?

Besides, I made that gigantic resistance is futile dancing banana that bey's been spamming all over the arcade distoring the high scores pages. Your tomato couldn't possibly be as bad as all that.

I'm way too lazy to quote everybody, especially without quote hack, so y'all are just going to have to guess wtf I'm talking about.

1. The nanas never actually drink the beer. That bothers me.
2. I like the first tomato. Then again, I'm a softie for differently-abled smilies. :jd:
3. The "dancing" keyword should bring up Resistance is Futile.
4. I forgot what #4 was.
5. liv's rock makes me think we need a Sisyphus smilie.
6. Also a dancing hot dog in a bun.

Crumb

Don't kid with me. I've complied with your request and it's a whole FOUR PIXELS WIDER NOW! See what liv hath wrought? http://burningsmell.org/tomatodance.gif

Actually yeah, that is better. I left out the arms though, they interfered with the round-ed-ness.

But now it's non-standard! The compulsion to make them a matching set should totally override the compulsion to keep the 'mater round. I mean, duh. Kids today. I've uploaded it anyway, of course, but under protest. :glare:

On the more classical dancing produce (the category is up, btw) side of things, here's one I just made: :rasp:

More dancing produce(and ordnance). I think I'm getting the hang of this. Actuallly I cheated and made a program to do it.
http://burningsmell.org/corndance.gif http://burningsmell.org/potatodance.gif http://burningsmell.org/grenadedance.gif http://burningsmell.org/potatodance.gif http://burningsmell.org/corndance.gif

I'll probably touch those up manually tomorrow. Tonight I'm zonked.

And here's a terrific pineapple one usable for the explosion that I found here (http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://www.doxdesk.com/img/updates/20041229-pineapple.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.doxdesk.com/&h=20&w=20&sz=4&tbnid=hRFBSNHko9gJ:&tbnh=20&tbnw=20&hl=en&start=4&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpineapple%26imgsz%3Dicon%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG):

That corn is clothed ... needs a strip sequence.

Program? Wot kinda program?

Corona688
05-15-2005, 07:38 PM
The program is still under development, but what I did was I took the dancing 'nana and removed the nana to get the pure dancing. Then I exploded it into individual frames, split the frames into their component dancing parts -- dancing legs, dancing left arm, dancing right arm, dancing face.

My program reads in all this data and superimposes it on whatever static image you give it, and shows the result realtime. I can manipulate the relative positions of things with the arrow keys -- make the arms wider for the potato, the eyes taller for the corn, etc. Once I've got everything right I hit printscreen and it saves 7 frames, which I turn into an animation with The Gimp.

This has it's limits though. The dancing face is meant to fit on a concave surface like a 'nana, and doesn't fit on taters and grenaders without lots of touchups.

So anyway, here's an improved dancing tater and grenader. The corn I'll leave as is.

Warning: you will all hate me for this post.

They're adorable Corona, and sooo close to perfection, but your program makes one mistake: it only moves the eyes and mouth down on frames 4 and 8, not the entire veggie/explosive device. That disrupts the classic dancing motion.

I know. I have issues. I'm sorry. I'd be glad to fix them individually if you wouldn't mind.

OK, liv already got the 'tater, so:

That's all you're going to get from me for now. I'd better do something more useful

Oh yeah, I also thought of a search keyword for these things. 'frankenfood'

The only way that could be improved is if the grenade dropped into view at the beginning of the cycle instead of just appearing.
My only other "improvement" would be to suggest that, before the little green fellow exploded, he adopted a lemming stance before exploding (hands to head, look of surprise at his impending doom). The spoken "Oh no!" is not necessary.

The only further improvement on your improvement to my improvement would be if the look of surprise were instead the look of "I'm about to poop" concentration that baby Jack-Jack has in the Incredibles short "Jack-Jack Attack" before he bursts into flame. That would so cool.
