First, can anybody create a "whatever" smilie in the style of :loser: :fuckyou: where he makes a "W" with his fingers? I found the one with the signs* but I'd like to see one like I described.

* :whatever:

Also, here's an idea for the search feature that would probably require some development, but might be fun. Sometimes I feel like I could use a "find other smilies like this one" link next to a smilie I like. For example, a link from angrynana could bring up more bird-flipping smilies or all the dancing produce. One idea would be if you could see all the keywords that point to a smilie, and then click on that keyword to see more. Or even easier, if we could just see the keywords, we could search for the others using the search feature. Can we see the keywords already? Cuz if so, this paragraph was pointless. I shall, however, continue...

A lot of smilies by the same artist look similar. For example, the first two smilies in this post look like they were done by the same person. In the same vein as the previous paragraph, it would be cool if we could pull up the creator of a smilie, and then click on "show all smilies by this artist" or something. I'd love to get a look at everything we have by darkmoon. A few questions spring to mind. Is there a field specifically for the artist of the smilie, or is it just entered as a keyword? If it's the latter, my first suggestion would still work. But then the second question is, is the artist (if known) entered as a keyword for every smilie?

ETA: Now that I seem them juxtaposed, those first two do not look like they were done by the same artist... hrmph. That throws a wrench in my works.

I think those are some great ideas, Ensign, although of course I can't speak to their practicality. What do you think, Joe?

To answer some of questions, keywords are not currently visible anywhere except in the Admin Control Panel. There is no specific artist field and yes, I definitely enter all known artists as a keyword for their smilies.

If you search for darkmoon or Zikes or MisterIngo you'll find all their smilies. :)

Neato!

If somehow we were able to view the keywords, we would see the artist's name, and it would totally solve half my problems. I chose darkmoon for my example because she's the only smilie artist whose name I know, outside of the membership here. Oh, and cuz her smilies are great.

Zikes has been posting up a storm today. (I think he likes us 'cause we adopted his poor, unappreciated orphan, glompfuck.)

here's an idea for the search featureOoh ooh, we love ideas. Especially liv. She gets all :control:
a "find other smilies like this one" linkI want this myself. You may assume that I've thought about it (not conclusively though).
if you could see all the keywords that point to a smilieA small matter of programming, but there's a question only livius can answer: are the keywords her private intellectual property jealously guarded? :hoard: And are they tidy enough for exposure to the membership at large?
Is there a field specifically for the artist of the smilie, or is it just entered as a keyword? No field. Just a keyword
But then the second question is, is the artist (if known) entered as a keyword for every smilie?and the artist is only known for a very few. Liv will have to confirm if she's religiously identified all known artists. And in the post gap she has.

a "find other smilies like this one" linkJust going back to this point, I've wondered about a "suggest a new keyword for this smilie" feature.

So very agreed! :yup:

A small matter of programming
I should point out that this is shorthand for "it can be programmed but only a sucker would commit to how long it might take".

Nothin' much, really. Just kinda aimlessly trying to learn php coding as always.

I know my search idea was great and all, but let's not forget the most important part of the OP.

Fear not, Ensign, for though you walk through the valley of whatever darkness, yea, I am right by your side.

But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.

Yeah a whatever smiley, ok...

Anyway, the search feature idea: It could just pile all the keywords as links beneath the smilies found. Clicking on a keyword would automatically do a search. Is that what we are all thinking?

Ah, you see the one, for that was when she carried you.
