Hello everybody. :thankee:
1. How'd you find the Freethought Forum?
Over the holiday season I was away from CF for ages and when I went back, my bros David Gould, Zoot, Seebs, had all vanished mysteriously. Sweetie told me they had been seen messing about in this freethought forum place so I wandered over to see what everyone thought was so damned special about it.
I now know that the answer is "Smilies, and lots of them".
2. Are you a member of any other online forums? Which?
Still a member at CF, occasionally float back to snipe in some of the old arguments that never die. Am also still technically a member of IIDB and Darwin Awards, but under different guises in those two.
3. How do you feel about smilies (emoticons)?
At first I was afraid. I was petrified. But I've been won over by their charm. :slice:
4. How do you feel about 2000+ smilies?
Have we made the 2000th yet? :? What was it?
5. Is flaming:
B. Beneath you
I would never.
6. Is vulgar language:
C. Irritating as fuck
heheh, irony.
7. Why did the chicken cross the road?
My grandpappy always explained it was "to flap his wings up". I never quite understood that, but he seemed to be satisfied with that explanation.
8. Who pays for your food?
John Q. Taxpayer. Indirectly. As an aside, 95% of my meals are microwavable. :D
9. What's one thing you've always wanted to do but never have?
Have sex with Avril.
10. What is your single favorite place in the world?
Lady Musgrave island. So many memories. Or else my couch. I actually don't bother sleeping in my bed anymore, I just sleep on the couch. I love that couch.
11. What's the significance of your username?
Well I was starting up at CF and wanted to make sure everybody knew which camp I lay in.
12. What about your avatar?
Leviticus Deuteronymous made it, isn't it ceeew?! It's the first ever online effigy of me ever made by anybody ever. I don't care who you are, that shit is special.

That's funny, I really thought you were being humble, like "I am but a man". It's clear I didn't know you when I came to that conclusion, huh? :D

I hadn't really thought that part through.
heh, see I was watching this current affairs show and it had this woman giving a bit of a sob-story about how everything is so tough on her and she mentioned off hand that she's been bulimic for 13 years and she wasn't a small girl and that struck me as a little odd.

God, I know what you mean. I hate seeing fatass 115 pound women prancing around begging for attention because of their bulimia. C'mon ladies. Drop 10 more pounds and you'll finally be pretty, and someone will pay attention to you.

:super:
That was more or less the really bad joke I was getting out of it.
At the risk of turning this thread serious, though, I do feel less sorry for bulemics than anorexics. Having a psychological aversion to food is one thing, but making yourself throw up afterwards as the best course of action is just silly.
Just go for a walk, darling. It's much more effective, and far less stinky.

That's probably why it's generally considered a psychological disorder, not a lifestyle choice.

Oh I know. I'm talking about the attention seekers who occasionally stick their fingers down their throat as distinct from the people for whom it is a psychological necessity.
That stupid "13 year bulimic" woman was an example. If she was REALLY bulimic she'd be dead, one would think, or at least much skinnier than she was.

I don't really know a lot about eating disorders (except that I've known a few women who had them) but I doubt there are many perfectly healthy girls/women out there making themselves puke to get attention. Have you actually done any research on this or are you just guessing?

Well I know enough about eating disorders to know this is completely wrong. Bulemia is typically manifest as binge eating and purging, but of course there's no rule that says that to be a bulemic you have to puke up every time you eat. So to the best of my knowledge it's not only possible, but fairly normal for bulemics to be alive and overweight regardless of how long they've had the disorder.

I stand by my assertion that it'd be easier to go for a walk.
viscousmemories

And of course it's your prerogative to stand by that assertion, but since you clearly have no evidence that a signficant number of women make a rational choice to induce vomiting over healthier alternatives I can't help but conclude that you are being willfully obtuse in suggesting one.
Did I say :welcome: to the FF?

I think here in the USA it is very clear what many young women are doing instead of binging and purging, they're taking meth to lose weight instead.

I'd sure agree... But then, they also lose their teeth, skin tone and dignity with all that weight.

Chronic purging isn't too healthy for the teeth either.

Most women with eating disorders suffer in secret until they are either caught, on the verge of death, are ready to get treatment, or try to fight it themselves. The women who actually do come forward often do it to raise awareness so that others who suffer from eating disorders know they are not alone.
Do you realize just how shameful a bulimic may feel about their disorder? It is disgusting and enslaving. Who honestly wants to admit that they make themselves throw up just for sympathy? Honestly, I think it only logical for a bulimic to realize and to think that they will receive more anger, scorn, and scrutiny than they will sympathy. They quite often know how others see them because they often see themselves in the same light.
There are bulimics that make themselves vomit every meal, there are some that do it once a day, or go for a while and then binge and purge. Many anorexics can also suffer from bulimia, they will fast, then binge in starvation and then purge the food in a panic.
I feel bad for all bulimics, even the fat ones and actually commend the not so skinny ones for admitting the illness to help raise awareness.

You are correct, Rebecca. I was unfair.
I am very sorry Justaman. I took this personally. In all honesty, I think you are a good guy and you did not deserve my bs.
