Hi Garnet!

11. What's the significance of your username?

I think garnets are prettier than diamons and all of my jewelry is garnet. When I saw your nickname I was hoping it referred to the gemstone! Garnets are definitely one of my favorite gemstones: good hardness, great sparkle, exciting colors. What is your favorite garnet, if I may ask?

I recently posted in the food forum of FF about some unusual garnets I have called gooseberry garnets (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=75073). I hadn't known what a gooseberry is and the kind folks here helped me out. There's a photo of the gemstones there, if you are interested.

Welcome to FF, fellow garnet lover!

Hi all,

Thanks for the welcomes.

Gotta be a good place that encourages cursing, garnets and condoms.

Those gooseberry garnets are gorgeous. My favorites are the ones that are a deep blood red. Although I have a gold colored one that really catches the light.

My mom has a gorgeous garnet ring of that blood red color. The garnets are so dark you almost have to hold them up to the light to see that they're red. It's one of my favorite pieces from her extensively delicious collection. :)

OOoooooooooo....sounds wonderful.

livius drusus

It really is. When I was little I thought they were rubies based on the well-known "everything red is a ruby" premise.

I can't describe it very accurately, I'm afraid, because it's a really unusual shape. The best I can say is that it looks like the crest of one of those cute poison-spitting dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, with each side of the crest festooned with garnets.

OK, in my first of many acts of idiocy, I can't figure out how to change the avatar. I saved it to my hard drive, but when I try to change, I get an error message about the file name.

Weird. I'm not sure what the error was babbling about, but I uploaded the avatar for you in the ACP. :)

Wow, I'm amazed that you could spend 37 yrs. in SoCal and then move to Michigan. :shudder: I was born in Detroit and grew up in Ann Arbor, and if I never see a Michigan winter again it'll be too soon.

Master Taran

I moved here from Phoenix, Az. I was born in the Valley and didn't know the rest of the world until I went to Az. to go to scooter school. Found out why I didn't like Callie. I got tired of the 'all for Me and fuck you' attitude. The further I am from Callie the better I like it. And 2 of My 3 children live there.

Garnet

*grins* Besides, we've both found that we like cold weather. I don't think MT is that enamored with snow when he has to remove it (which he shouldn't blasted have to at all...snow removal is supposed to be done for us...grumble...grumble) but we both enjoy having four seasons.

viscousmemories
01-03-2008, 05:38 AM
Hey I got four seasons here in Austin: Rain Season, Blistering Heat Season, Chilly Season and sometimes a day or two of winter.

Garnet
01-04-2008, 01:32 AM
*laughs* Well, I grew up in Phoenix, AZ which has 4 seasons too...

Not so hot, Hot, Hotter and IT'S SO DAMNED HOT THE RUNWAYS AT THE AIRPORT ARE MELTING.

JamesBannon
01-04-2008, 02:20 AM
In Scotland we have only one season - rain.

Watser?
01-04-2008, 10:59 AM
We have: rain, warm rain, rain, cold rain.

Stormlight
01-04-2008, 11:26 AM
Pfff, we also have icy rain from time to time.

Watser?
01-04-2008, 11:27 AM
I counted that as cold rain.

Garnet
01-04-2008, 09:46 PM
I can handle snow, dust, wind, heat, cold, and a variety of strengths of storms.

But not ice. I HATE icy rain and ice storms. I'd rather get 3 feet of snow.
