Ok so if you put a whole lot of small smilies (though bigger ones work ok) in a sequence you get a bunch of stupid spaces such as:

:brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding::brooding:

Also if - for whatever reason - you need to put in a whole bunch of letters without spaces, spaces get strangely introduced.

vmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnantvmisrepugnant

These design flaws may look innocuous enough, but it's the little thing like this that will fuck everything up if someone were to fly a plane into it.

I see spaces in the smilies, but not in the letters.

Just do what JoeP does and toss a couple of random vB code tags in there. It'll be an endless party.

And a stretched page. :(

Crumb

Doesn't stretch my page. You guys must be using wacko browsers or something. :nutty:

And a stretched page. :(

I deleted a bunch of them. Does that help?

MooseIBe

no my page is still stretched.

viscousmemories

I think it might be justaman's use of HTML marquee in his signature stretching the page. We thought we fixed it using Zikes' suggestion for the css, but maybe not. :?

Skep

vm, nope, justaroo's sig does not stretch the page in other threads.

Skep
06-17-2005, 03:46 PM
liv, that's perfect. :)

Moose, my quote of liv's post caused the page to stretch after liv's edit. I have removed the conga line from the quote.

All is now well. :)

Shh... it was I who just chopped some more of the conga dancers from liv's post.

Why I oughta...

Ok, so this is convoluted and totally does not need squashing but is weird nonetheless.

1) Go to liv's post here (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=81122&postcount=13).
2) Click on the link she provides to D. Scarlatti's post.
3) Click on D. Scarlatti's name.
4) Click 'Show only D. Scarlatti's posts.'

On Firefox, I get 6 'pages.' The first page is the actual posts, and the 5 following pages are like blank index pages (you can tell by the quick reply at the bottom.)

Hm, this is happening with other posters in that thread too, so those first two steps are unnecessary. Any poster in that thread will do. But I'm not seeing it in other threads.

P.S. Dammit, you would think that after 4 years of using these damn boards, I'd be able to properly format a URL on the first try.

Hmm... what browser are you using, Chuck? I don't see that with IE, Firefox or Opera. :chin:

Oops, just noticed you said Firefox. Maybe clear your cache?

ChuckF
06-17-2005, 05:32 PM
Hm, no, that didn't work.

Here's a cap of one of the blanks pages.

Ok, I tried it again on another computer (also running FireFox 1.0.4, but this time on XP SP2 instead of OS X 10.4) and got the same result.

That happened to me recently too. It was just once, though, and now I can't duplicate it.

That thread is the only one that I can find that it works on. Might it have something to do with the split?

viscousmemories
06-17-2005, 06:03 PM
Okay, I was able to reproduce it but only on multipage threads and only logged in as a non-admin user. :chin: I'll keep digging...

Crumb

I can reproduce it Chuck, on that thread. Good find.

Well, the good news is: I was able to find the source of the problem.

The bad news is: I currently lack the php skillz to fix it.

Progress, not perfection. Baby steps. Somewhere over the rainbow. One day.

A thousand points of light.

But seriously, this bug doesn't merit a whole lot of stress :)
