View Full Version : How do you guys police MP3 attachments?

Say I purchase a song from iTunes, and I manage to convert it to an mp3 (not hard to do), and I like the band so much I talk about it here, and then on a whim I add it as an attachment to your site.

What will you folks do to it?

ask you to share it in your gmail account like a normal human being?

Dear beyelzu,

Why would I wish to be normal? Besides, you seem to think I'm asking this question to "test the waters" to see if I can do this ... I can assure you, as a faithful Christian :P I would never do such a thing.

Sincerely,
TomJoe

PS: How many legit/legal MP3 attachments do you think will ever be posted here? Isn't this particular feature open to abuse and more problematic for FF if they get caught (even unawares) than it is worth?

I think that it is covered, sort of in the forum rules, I just dont remember where to find them.

. You may not post any messages that contain content illegal in the United States.

* For example:
o Child pornography
o Warez (pirated software)
o Copyrighted content not covered by fair use provisions

so they can just delete it if it becomes a problem. and ban any user that continues to do the shit

I suppose. It seems to me to be a feature that will never be used properly. Though I'm sure someone will attach a legit/legal mp3 file to FF now just to prove me wrong. Bastards.

Wouldn't the attachment be too big for the FF software to accept it if it were a whole song?

You used a naughty word. I'm telling God on you.

Bastard is a naughty word? It's used in the good 'ol KJV. :P (Deuteronomy 23:2).

So, I can use it at CF?

Hmmm ... well, would depend on context I imagine ;) . For instance, if you use their BIBLE tag, and quote Deuternomy 23:2, I don't think they could issue you a warning. :P

Anything else (ie: the other "context") and they'd no doubt nail your ass. Of course, "ass" is also found in the KJV ... those potty mouthed Anglicans.

So based on the context with which you used Bastards in this thread, I'd have to go back to you simply using naughty words in a cussing style. Ergo - I'm telling God on you! :nyahnyah:

There's tons of stuff that would be ok to post here. Every mp3 on http://www.myvirtualband.com would be legal here, for instance. </bastard mode>

We'd take it down, TomJoe. Our concern in this case is legal liability. Given how aggressive the RIAA is in dealing with people who trade music, we believe hosting such attachments in our database is just too much of a risk even though there may be circumstances under which it would not actually be illegal.

But to clarify, if it's homemade (as in a recording of your own band, etc.)--or under something like a Creative Commons license--that wouldn't be a problem.
