I registered back in Feb, but never posted. Since I made my first post, I'll go ahead and start an intro thread here. I think some people here already know me from II or HH.
Anyway, if you don't, I'm a philosophy mod at II (let the pile-on commence). Wrt RL, I'm a grad student in math and that pretty much sums up everything about me right now. I do seem to recall things called sleep and free time, but I think it was just a happy dream.
Anyhoo...I never know what to say in these damn intro threads nor how to end them, so...

(we'll end them for you)
...I just wanted to say that you all are the best looking and smartest people I've ever seen in a message board!
Why thank you, ex-xian, that's an awfully sweet thing to say. I've seen you around II before, I spend most of my time in Media and Politics.
Welcome aboard!

Ah, yes, see, if you had registered more recently, you would have been linked to a list of questions (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2960) in your welcome PM and wouldn't have had to worry about knowing what to say. :writer:
I'm glad to see you finally broke the lurker barrier and got yourself some Roman numerals. Welcome to FF, ex-xian. :welcome1:
ETA: OMG your avatar is so, so MONEY! I loved that episode. Loved it.

Welcome aboard!
Just remember, if you lived here, you wouldn't have to moderate.

Welcome, ex-xian. At least here we can occasionally discuss mathematics without dealing with Doron Shadmi!

Yeah, well. I've always been a over-achiever.

Thanks! Yeah, that was one of my favorites too. Are you a big Buffyverse fan?

But then I wouldn't have the sensation of shaudenfraude when I maliciously use my power to shut my oppenents down. :D

Thank you for the welcome, vm. I actually like what I've seen so far; seems pretty laid back. So is there no moderation here at all? Ever have flame wars?

I'm a huge Buffyverse fan. I have all the DVDs and once even started writing a paper on the anarchism, gender and power relations in Buffy. It never got past the notes and intro stage though.

What's that? You've not converted to Organic Mathematics yet? But it has so many pretty pictures!

And I know I could have replied to all of you in one post...as a matter of fact, I could have put this post in one of the others...
But I thought I'd engage in some shameless post-slutting to get higher Roman numerals. Which are, by the way, a very nice touch.

Well, we need to have some Buffyverse discussions here! I only have one set of the DVD's, but I've seen all the episodes many times over (thank the IPU for FX and TNT). I knew a girl as an undergrad who liked Buffy for the gender issues. I was interesting to hear her talk about them.

Thank you. They were Shake's idea and JoeP wrote the code to make the dream come true. If you hover over them you'll see the arabic version, btw.
As for post slutting to increase your numeral count, I'm shocked, shocked that anyone would do such a thing. Shocked I tell you. :shifty:

Sucker-punching the unwary gives you thrills, does it?

Well, it beats trying to sucker-punch the extremely wary.

There's some moderation, actually. We don't allow certain illegal content, spam, etc. as explained in the Forum Rules (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/ffintro.php?do=ffrules). We were compelled to ban one person who hadn't broken a rule (long story (http://plato/vbforum/forum/showthread.php?t=2952)), but in general we favor a very hands-off approach. No editing 'insults', no locking ongoing discussions, no splitting or merging of threads without the consent of the thread author (or if we think the author won't care) etc.
Flamewars? Never.
:D :innocent:

I started watching the series when they began showing the old episodes on FX -- that was probably around season 5 of the active series -- and was irretrievably hooked.
The main issue I was interested in exploring was her relation to her watchers and the Watchers' Council, how it differed dramatically from her predecessors', and how it burns the WC's ass that she refuses to fit the mold.

Heh. Yeah it does. I just can't seem to wrap my head around the limit being somehow restricted to finite processes. I guess it's true what they say about your mathematical intuition fading as you age.
That, and I'm kinda fond of Cantor's transfinite cardinals, just from an aesthetic point of view.

While it's true there isn't much moderation going on here, one of the admins has a really nasty glare.

Holy crap! There it is ... the X-bar! Right there in liv's post count. I mentioned somewhere else around here that we'd be seeing it soon. Of course, I missed it come into play. You'll have to stop on your X-barth post for a while just to show off bask in the glory!
I see I also missed vm getting to (V-bar)M. That would've been kinda cool, too.
Oh yeah, welcome, ex-xian!
