View Full Version : Important Policy Question

Well okay, it's not that important.
Here's what I'm thinking. As is obvious, there is currently an "Arcade Challenges" drop-down menu in the user information section of each post. This menu shows all the arcade awards an individual member has, as well as providing a link to the official "challenges". We are considering removing it.
Here's our rationale:
It's somewhat visually and otherwise distracting (luring people to play instead of post, perhaps)
It serves no purpose on the posts of the majority, who don't have awards
It could potentially make such a person feel like a loser
Only Zoe, Blake and Farren would experience any real loss :P
What do you think?

Sure, why not.
Uh, for removing it.

The admonition "D. Scarlatti has no awards" makes me feel terribly inadequate.

I don't see a need for it, I know where the arcade is at.

Wow, I simply cannot imagine caring less about an issue. I have never even seen the thing.
Um, so a vote for, "Huh?"

:biglaugh:
Yeah, I actually thought that not long after I posted it. When there were 2 votes in favor I decided I should've just done it. Now I'm pretty much just waiting to see if a huge delegation of fans pops up. :D

Count me in the "Other" category of "don't give a shit". I don't play the games but I'm glad other people enjoy them. Those folks would have to say whether competition against other people is part of the whooopdeedoo thrill.

Other = Don't care.
I am a loser anyway, so my vote doesn't count.

Is it possible to hide the Arcade Challenges pop-up menu if the user doesn't have any awards, so that everyone could still see that I'm King of Beermat, Gyroball, and Space Runner?
Course, I'm not sure whether people'd still feel put down and beleaguered and crushed anyway so you'd have to run a new poll for public opinion on this new option, but hey, them's the breaks.
Put me down for a titanic MEH otherwise.

It is in fact possible, but not only would that not relieve the feeling of loserhood some people undoubtedly experience from having a barren menu, I'm sure it would only exagerrate it. As it is you have to click on the menu to see whether someone is a loser. Your way it would be obvious, since she wouldn't have the menu.

Okay, combining the yes's and other's, it's 9-0 against no. So it shall be written...

hmmm... You've done away with that drop down that I was so proud of?
That showed I had no awards and thus was NOT a loser.
C'mon, people whose self-esteem is dependent upon winning at arcade games are the real losers. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with arcade games...they're time wasters, basically...but to make it a point of pride that you're good at one of the them is, um....pathetic.
Otherwise, I don't really care. I didn't use the arcade and I'm not likely to...I'm more interested in finding a real life, and having a decent discussion in the interim.

Personally, I like the arcade. It's a sign that posters can do things, as well as just say things. If we're worried about people having no awards, why not add a game called "everybody wins"? :P

We have that, actually. It's called Bikini Bounce (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/arcade.php?do=play&gameid=85). Put enough time in on that one and you can't lose.
