One of the neatest ideas I've read about in a long time is supramass shell worlds and other structures that would use Dynamic Compression Members for support. You can read how they'd work in the science papers section a little ways down on http://www.paulbirch.net/
I don't know if you're familiar with Dyson Spheres (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson_Spheres) but a suprastellar shell would be like a Dyson Shell, except possible without needing unobtanium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unobtanium)
A million times Earth's area per suprastellar shell, and thousands could be built around a single Sol(The Sun)-like star! Lot's of living space, yes?

Utility Fog (http://discuss.foresight.org/~josh/Ufog.html), can you imagine a material that can change shape like the T-1000 from Terminator 2? Also can change volume, unlike the T-1000 is described. Isn't plausible someday so much cooler than Hollywood fiction?

Respirocytes (http://www.foresight.org/Nanomedicine/Respirocytes.html), an artificial, nanotechnological, blood cell that could let you hold your breath for 2-20 hours(depending on the type).

Wow, this is neat stuff. Those artificial blood cells I'd very much like to own. I'd sell my SCUBA tank and buoyancy compensator right away to buy them. :yup: I guess I'll be fifty to seventy years old before they exist though. :( What a shame!
