Kamen I recall one frenzied session where half the board chatted at once. I think Gawen initiated it by sending everyone PMs demanding they join him in the chatroom (he was mildly drunk) immediately. And everyone did. Just so you know, this technique works (and I don't mind getting PMs from peeps I've never chatted to before :) ).

I discovered this place quite by accident, though I'm sure I've heard mention of it on IIDB.
I post at IIDB under the same handle. There's an awful lot of familiar faces here. I browsed some of the threads here and feel that the atmosphere is a bit more relaxed.
I hope to contribute more here than I do at IIDB. It gets a little intimidating over there sometimes.

Ayuh.
Warhammer 40K. Eldar player, to be precise. I am the proud commander of a HUGE Warhost of Ulthwe (hence, the avatar).
Actually, to be accurate, I have to admit that I have not played a game in a very long time. I got into the hobby for the models.
Although, to be fair, I've not painted in a really long time, either.
PS: Really like your handle, big fan of Norse mythology.

actually, eldar, in spite of what liv says,
never underestimate the ability to distract her by asking about a recipe.
or if you dont mind throwing someone else to the wolves, you can just point out some shitty formatting and liv will be distracted and frothing at the mouth at someone else.

I played 40k back in second edition. Now I mostly stick to generic rulesets but rarely play anymore. I still like to paint though and buying figures is an addiction.

If Liv comes for you, just throw some cilantro at her!
Funny you should mention cilantro. I was making coconut chicken last night and had to use cilantro. Turns out the wife also bought parsley and watercress. I couldn't tell one leafy herb from the next.
Fortunately, the recipe actually called for dried cilantro. That is clearly labeled in the spice rack.

I got involved during 2nd edition, just a few months before 3rd edition debuted. I've played several 2nd edition games, but not a single 3rd edition. And now 4th edition is on the horizon.
Which armies do you collect? While I am a devoted Eldar player, I've painted some IG and some Orks.

May I suggest posting that coconut chicken recipe in ApostateAbe's carnivore thread? Oh sure, the cilantro ensures I wouldn't eat it with beyelzu's mouth (and God knows where that's been), but I'm sure others would dig it.
I might even be inspired to modify it for my precious palate if it looks as good as I think it will.

Chaos space marines were the force that got me into the game. Otherwise, I've got some old Imperial Guard, and a smattering of stuff bought used at the local gaming store.

Now, when you say bass, do you mean guitar or violin? Because it seems to me that some of our guitar-playing types could be just as well be bassists and we'd never know.

Now, when you say bass, do you mean guitar or violin?Bass guitar, a Fender Precision to be exact (see my avatar!). I had to play a little violin in school but I was a really piss poor violinist. The fretboard I could handle, but I never could make the bow sound like anything but an overweight cat in labor. I actually am playing bass in a classic rock band, lots o' fun!

Right. I just got my account suspended at Christian Forums, presumably for suggesting that the same standard applied to other countries be applied to the US. Apostate Abe invited me here. He's a champ.
Uh, yes. I was raised a Christian, studied to be a minister, stopped both, and have just finished a degree in philosophy. I live in Auckland, New Zealand. I like drinking good alcohol and smoking good cigars and reading good comics and eating good food and so on.
I have never liked the terms "free thought" and "free thinker", mainly because most people I've come across who have referred to themselves in these terms have been pretentious wankers.
That's all I can think of to introduce myself.
Oh, I nearly forgot. I am a pretentious wanker.

I was actually at a mall (St Lukes, if you must know) yesterday when I saw someone wearing an "Enough is Enough" t-shirt - I really wanted to go and start some shit, but I thought better of it.
I figured not many of them would ever wear them again, because alone in public, it's not a statement many people feel comfortable making on a t-shirt.

It's all things, m'dear. It can be both Country and Western, and if you're lucky you won't even need to bring any chicken wire. :D
Heh. Look around awhile. Get a feel of the place - there's plenty of frivolity and plenty of seriousness for all tastes. Although hardline, rightwing, Christofascist nutjobs may have a harder time fitting - but then they're not really likely to sign up, neither, so you're safe as far as they are concerned. Unless you're one of 'em - in which case we'll have to work on ya. :D

You know, it was probably some dumb thing I did. I write emails all the time and press "delete" instead of "send" Occam's Razor comes in to play, the simplest explanation is I'm an eejit.
Thanks for the welcome!
I had not thought of Are You Being Served? for years and then we had a big conversation about it at the pub the other night. (you can see where my concerns about being out-intellectualled come from) So Mrs S (and her pussy) is forefront of my mind at the moment. Plus I thought it would confuse the Americans :P

Liv is right, we are a bunch of dumbasses. There is no bigger dumbass than Liv.
Hey! I'm the very soul of dignified intellect. The smilies are just a phase. A phase, I tell ya!
hey, liv, you ever think that maybe you shouldnt have given luna that naughty smilie?
encouraging a monster
That monster needs no encouragement. If she didn't have the naughty girl she'd put the cheerleaders and the lechers in compromising positions instead.

Not the Americans with PBS and BBC America. We British television nerds have many sources across the pond. Hell, as long as it has a British accent it is intellectual; that's just a known fact. :D

You know, I just realized that the blue hair next to your username is kind of disconcerting. Have you considered picking a more pinkish tint from the Slocombe rainbow? Or is that your plan all along: keeping me on my toes with perpetual blue-red shifts? :noid:

Well, I do all this at work so I don't have elaborate photoshopping available to resize my pics. The online resizer I use can only make the pics 25/50/75 % bigger or smaller. So ... I did a Google image search for Mrs Slocombe and had to go through a couple until I got one small enough but not too small. It was a headache believe me! :glare: Fee free to change her hair to a more acceptable tint ....

I kinda like that it's disconcerting. Like ceptimus's mirrored name and title is disconcerting. It appeals to me for some strange reason.
How'd you do the mirrored thing, anyway, ceptimus? It's uber cool.
I would be happy to change your hair colour, RedShift. Or even resize a pic you like better, if you wish it. Just email the link to the pic, or the pic itself, to mana_moana@hotmail.com . Though I like the current one very much, even though I never really watched Are You Being Served.
Your avatar also reminds me of Dame Edna Everidge, and I can't help but think of Dame Everidge's singing of Kanga-roo-la-rue-la-rue in the epic adventure, coming-of-age film based on Napoleon, the cute labrador puppy from Sydney who wanted to be a wild dog. :D

I used a cool program called Meazure (get it for free from here: http://www.cthing.com/ ) that allows you to grab bits of the screen display as images. Then I used a paint program (Paint Shop Pro I think) to flip it over and make the background transparent.
Unfortunately, I can't get it to line up properly for all browsers, skins etc., so I went for getting it right on Internet Explorer, default settings, as I figured more people would be using that than anything else.
I like all the avatars here by the way. :) Are we intending to do the 'special Christmas edition avatar' thing here?

Ha! Instant memory moment...
When I first arrived in Jerusalem, my boss (the owner of the hostel I worked in) took me on a tour of the old city with a couple of other people. Anyway, we got to the Church of St. Anne, which is reputed to have the most beautiful acoustics. To prove it, my opera singing boss began to sing Ave Maria or some damned thing (I dunno - he was Jewish  ), and the others gave it a go by reverentially singing a few bars of some popular gospel or other, and when it was my turn, I couldn't think of anything appropriate so I broke into Led Zeppelin's Black Dog. Hehe. :D
Hiya, Ab-Normal! Good to see you. :)

Thanks much for the warm welcome, guys>(in the sexually ambiguous sense, of course) .
livius drusus,
There're really no grounds for embarrassment on your part. I don't think I've ever interacted with you directly. That is, of course, 'til now. Plus, I doubt I've ever posted a thing worthy of recollection.
As for the avatar, aptly named running-fire, I like to think of it as a burning desire. Yes. In the masterful words of Robert Frost, "...from what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire...".
lunachick,
Hmm. :chin: Didn't spend much time (if any at all) in the humor forum at II. Philosophy's my thing. Sadly, I take it very seriously.
Thanks again, one'n'all. Hope to seeya' in thread.

It seem unlikely that someone who quotes Frost so swooningly aptly has never posted anything else worthy of recollection. Thank you for doing so here already, vince. :)
luna, I think you're thinking of Vinnie.
