Okay, so most of you probably don't know, but the East coast of Australia is in a bizarre cold snap, even for winter. Something weird usually happens to the weather this time of year in Brisbane, because the Exhibition is on and the deities who watch over this cultural backwater of a city want to make all the farmers & their prize cattle go home ASAP or something, but this is ridiculous. It was cold and raining today like Brisbane had suddenly relocated to Hobart or something, and yesterday my father rang me from Hobart at 8 in the morning to tell me it was snowing there (a not unheard of but rare occurance). There was also snow in Melbourne & Victoria very close to the coast, which is also rare. I had to wear about 5 layers today just to stop shivvering when walking to the bus stop. It's CRAZY!
Fuckin' global warming, I tell ya...

I saw this on the news yesterday. It showed Melbourne with about 6 inches of snow! My husband's kids live in a suburb of Melbourne so we rang them - they didn't have any snow - but said it was absolutely freezing.
Also, got an email from my friend in Sydney who says its beautiful, blue skies not a cloud in sight, but very cold.

Ah someone mentioned this on another forum.. that Melbourne had had snow. My brother is going there for his honeymoon in October, hope it clears by then :)

My prayers are with the Australians, forced to endure 50 degree temperatures.

Fahrenheit. 50 degrees Celsius would be the other 364-3/4 days of the Australian year.

Despite temperatures in the high 90's for several weeks, the meteorologist said it will soon feel like a real summer here.

I would talk about how cold it was when I lived in Wyoming (-48°F once) but then someone from Montana, North Dakota, Alaska or Canada would chime in, topping whatever I said.

:giggles: Very true Warren, soon enough it will start getting cold around here.
It's chilly here right now, 11 degrees C. It's mid-August man, I'm freezing, it's insane! I'm wearing a winter jacket, wish I could turn on the heat but my basement is damp and it would just stink up the whole house. :(

I envy you. The weather where I am is hellish. I need to move to a locale with a colder climate.

It's cold right now because I'm at work and the office is freezing! Pushin' a hunnert out there and I have a space heater at my feet to keep them warm. :frozen:
That's outrageous, that is. :irked:

My aunt in Sydney was saying it was cold there the other day. My heart bleeds, it really does. You don't know cold 'til you've lived in Scotland.

I wish it were so. Unfortunately, the temperature during a Sydney summer rarely tops 35 degrees.
You don't know cold 'til you've lived in Scotland....or endured a German winter.

I can't wait for the snow here living on top of a mountain in northeastern Pennsylvania. I’ve already put up a “snowy” landscape on my desktop. I don’t want to just blow through autumn because it’s my favorite season, but I’m just missing the snow. . . . .

It showed Melbourne with about 6 inches of snow!
I live in a suburb just a little out from the city centre, and I never noticed any snow. Or the cold. Perhaps I slept through it??? :P
