My oldest grandmother is just short of having her 90th birthday on the 30th of this month. I don't know if she's going to make it. She's been in the hospital for about two weeks now, has a blocked intestinal tract. She's so old and weak that serjury to remove what ever it is would kill her. The blockage, whatever it is, moved a little bit days ago. It's unknown what the blockage is. She's being feed through an IV and has her waste sucked up through a hose going through her nose down into her. I hope she makes it obviously, but she'll probably never leave the hospital alive again.:(

That's awful, Skep. I hope the blockage clears on its own so she can be home for her birthday. Did y'all have plans to celebrate her 90th?

It sure hurts to see someone you care about in that condition. It's almost a relief when they die. I too hope she gets better, but prepare yourself for the worst.

You have my condolences, Skep. My grandfather died a slow, painful death from prostate cancer. Watching a much loved relative die is not a pleasant experience.

The blockage isn't moving, she's been moved to hospice mode and her veins can't take IVs any longer. So she can't be feed through her arm or given IV pain meds. The pain meds will be given via skin patch now. She's going to die.
Yes, we had her birthday early when most of our extended family could come. There must have been 70 or more people at the two day long party. Good thing we did that, one last time for her to see everybody before this thing happened.

That's most unfortunate. I've never had a close family member die, mainly because I'm not close to most of my family, but I sympathize with you.

Guess what? My grandmother pulled through. Yep, she's been eating food since Monday. She started on broth and is now on solid food. This is one of those "miracle"
events. It's a shame my family is probably only crediting God instead of the real beings that got her through it; herself, the doctors and nurses.

Good news.
That is good news, oh and it's most likely more her than the doctors and nurses

Excellent news. I hope she's comfortable in her own home again to start enjoying her 10th decade. :)

That's great, SkepticJ! I'm glad it didn't turn out as they had feared.

She'll probably be in the hospital a few more weeks getting her strength back. She'd been eating solid foods for about three days, but she threw up today and they put an IV back in to help her.

I'm glad she's doing better, SkepticJ, she sounds like a tough lady. I hope she continues to get her strength back and is able to go home soon.

It didn't happen, she died last Friday. We had her funeral yesterday. I, being one of her grandsons, was one of the eight pallbearers that carried her to her grave. Weird. :(

Thanks, it's more weird than sad. Weird as in I'll never see her again, and how she looked laying there. :( I really wish they'd have left the pinkish lip stick off her. I never saw her wear lip stick in all my years of knowing her. It made her not look like my grandmother, even more than her waxy-looking flesh. She literally looked like a figure from a wax museum, why?
