View Full Version : So how did we find this wonderful place?

I was invited here by Livius Drusus over by SC

How about you?

Heh. I followed the controversy over Gurdur's banning from II over to here, by following the very disappearing link that became part of the whole drama. I lurked in the FF thread on the issue for nearly a week before deciding to check the rest of the place out. So I guess one good thing came of that sorry mess, for myself at any rate.

I was invited over from HH during FF Gamma or Delta testing.

I answered a personal ad seeking a self-righteous, uneducated, pseudophilosophical felon in the July, 2003 issue of The Flaming Midget. Until now I was surprised by how many other Flaming Midget fans there are. It hadn't occurred to me people might've come across this site by some other means.

As usual I have no idea what half of the acronyms are or what The Flaming Midget is other than a cocktail :wha:

I found my way here from an email PR sent me.

....I think it's all about me.

This thread prompted me to review my earliest posts in this forum. It wasn't that long ago, so I remember most of it. I just read them and responses to them all over again, just to satisfy some weird sense of ego.

Oh..and I found this place because I am perversely attracted to trolls.

Never meant you. Actually, it was a Google search for a particular troll that had been pestering the PD forum at IIDB. This search turned up a link to this (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=420&highlight=revprez) thread.

That troll may have been what brought me here, but posters like you give me reason to stay.

It was a natural progression as I followed the cool kids around.

IIDB private forums (which no longer exist) -> Heathen Hangout -> here.

It's an evolutionary thing.

Go to ForumGarden.com . Really uptight people. Anyone Left of Gerald Ford should avoid it. There are some genuinely nice people there, but that population is declining. Sorry Lunachick but I still believe I'm the weakest mind here! That's OK though. I'm a touch arrogant among friends and family about my political beliefs, etc. Many Holiday dinners ruined by my battles with rightist brothers-in law. :poke2:

I was part of the original diaspora after the exodus from the closed private forums at II. I ended up at the old FF before it became HH and when current FF was opened, I came over.

Basically, I followed the same trail lunachick followed. We go back quite a way back.

Ahh-so.

I recognized that you were being self-deprecating. But just as you must stick to that, I must stick to being naively obtuse so as to avoid offending anyone and appearing as harmless as possible.

We are all stuck on the paths we create.

One day in the middle of the night, I sat before my computer, bored out of my gourd. I thought to myself "What do I want to do?" In reply, I thought, "I don't really know, why not get on the internet" Pondering what site to start with, I thought "Three thought, four, um..."

Where are my manners?

II or IIDB = Internet Infidels Discussion Board (where many members here originally met)
FPF = Freethinkers Private Forums (now defunct private subforums at IIDB)
HH = Heathen Hangout (formerly known as Godless Heathens, previously Freethinkers Forum)
SC = Skeptical Community
JREF = James Randi Educational Foundation Forum

In brief:

I met livius (and a number of other members here) at IIDB and the atheists-only FPF's. When the FPF's closed, she and I started the atheists-only Freethinkers Forum to replace the FPF's. One day we decided we'd rather run a forum that wasn't atheists-only, so we turned the Freethinkers Forum over to others, who changed the name to GodlessHeathens. They eventually turned it over to others, who changed the name to Heathen Hangout. Our new forum is this one. :ff:
