Okay, so at least vm is on board with me here. Anyone else fans?
I love Glen Phillips' (http://www.glenphillips.com/) solo stuff too. His studio album ("abulum") is good, but Live at Largo (http://www.awarestore.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=stores&ARTIST_ID=3013&ACTION=SHOW_CAT&CATEGORY_ID=1&CFID=2722877&CFTOKEN=97734480) is IMO even better--just him and a guitar. He's great live, which even the live album doesn't quite capture--he's a good musician, but he's also just funny as hell. How can you not love this guy? Plus, I also just want to invite Glen to our cuddle party and just give him a squeeze.

My big fat valuable contribution to this thread is that Toad the Wet Sprocket's cover of "Rock and Roll All Nite" is among the greatest cover songs ever.
The original just sounds all wrong now.

:) I have that on CD as well.
Glen Phillips did a cover of Randy Newman's "Political Science" also. Kicks. Ass.

I'll give it a listen now just 'cuz I'm bored. Any specific song recommendations?

Oops, a little late. Still want recommendations? :)
Just bumping this because I've been listening all day to Winter Pays for Summer (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007OY3RU/qid=1112815293/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/103-9114308-9202250), Glen Phillips' new album. It KICKS ASS; kind of a James Taylor quality on some of the songs. Ben Folds also makes a cameo appearance on background vocals in "courage." My biggest complaint is on the song "easier," (which I've he's played live for at least a few years and I LOVE because it cracks me up, and is on Live at Largo (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000TGAIC/ref=pd_sim_music_3/103-9114308-9202250?v=glance&s=music)), he changes the lyrics:
And if you thought I could be replaced
I wouldn't just stop with an ear
I would cut off my whole fucking face
Just to make my point clear...
to "whole FREAKING face." What the hell? Ruins that whole verse, damn it. Still, he's forgiven just because he's a little cutie (http://www.glenphillips.com/) and looks even younger than I do (he's either 32 or 33 but looks about 12 in concert):

Plus, just for liv, he also likes Eminem. I feel bad for telling you I like Toad, 'cause I really haven't heard them in 10 years and I honestly don't listen to music much at all lately. I wish I had some MP3's to back up the legal (but oddly invisible) CD's I have here.

'tis OK. lisarea likes at least one song, and she's waaaay cooler than you. :didi:
(Oh, and in my last post, that was the generic "you," not you--vm--specifically.)

I think I have fear and maybe one other (I'll have to check when I get home). I just haven't kept up with them ... and a dozen other bands who I like(d).

Yeah, I'm like that with a lot of bands too. Toad actually broke up in, hmm, 1998 or 99, but the lead singer (that would be Glen Phillips) has been doing stuff on his own. They also did a reunion tour a few years back that was pretty awesome--they're one of those bands who is actually better live than recorded, because they're just funny as hell. Not Barenaked Ladies improv comedy funny, but sarcastic witty remarks funny. Plus Glen is smart as hell. Last concert I went to, he asked some random question about the date of some Papal bull and tossed a T-shirt or something to the geek in the audience who got it right, then used that to segue into the "Political Science" cover.

Oh, I didn't think you meant me specifically. I just felt guilty. :grinch:

Well then, in that case, please proceed to do so.

Yeah. You see, I think now that you mention it, I might have heard they weren't together anymore, but I can't keep it all straight. Besides, at that time, my tastes had gone very heavy. Also, most of my older stuff like Toad, is on tape, and despite my claims that I'd still listen to them, most of my tapes are sitting around collecting dust. But I can't just get rid of them -- it'd cost thousands to replace everything with CDs ... if I could even find it all on CD, that is.
