View Full Version : Unseen London
Thanks to my boyfriend researching his family tree, I'm in the process of seeing areas of London far off the beaten track.
Today I saw something I never thought existed in London, to me at least it was amazing. A massive 32 acre, overgrown, not quite abandoned, dating back to the 1800's, surrounded by life and buildings, cemetery. See here (http://www.abney-park.org.uk/) for more details.

The first picture is very nice, except for the grafitti.
The second picture is incredible, thank you. The ray of light coming over the dormer window creates a very striking effect. All the picture needs is a pale face seen in a window - or perhaps a sinster figure in the foreground - to make a perfect novel cover.

Hey, that looks real nice, and it's not that far away from me! I shall have to plan an excursion.

Great pics, xyza. I love that ivy covered church in half-savage landscape look. Ymir's blood is right that it's perfect for a Gothic novel cover. Did you actually check out the old tombstones in the cemetary proper? Old cemeteries are fascinating places.
It's like a secret garden in the middle of the concrete jungle. I'm now on a mission to find other hidden wonders ... Churches and grave yards are my favourites :cheerful:

I love gothic settings and secret gardens. Sends shivers down my back. Is the church abandoned? It doesn't look like it's in use.

The whole place looks abandoned when you get in there, graves overgrown with Ivy, fallen into total disrepair as well as the ground. The chapel is just sitting there, boarded and bricked up, the stain glass has long gone and only some of the leading is hanging there.
Tidied a little, as in the graffiti removed it would be perfect in it's disrepair.

Wow, that's a fantastic place! I love the pictures, it really is a shame about the graffiti, though. Some people...
The picture on the virtual tour page is amazing! I've never been lucky enough to see statuary quite like that.

/me forgot to go to the linked site before.
Very nice. I downloaded all the movies for reference material.
I wonder what the horse monument in the attached picture looked like originally.
