aussie lagerAussie lager! Uncouth swill like Fosters, no doubt. If you're going to offer me something antipodean, make it a good NZ brew like Macs or Monteiths. Of course, those might be hard to come by in the UK. :D
No matter, I'll be happy enough to have the privilege to drink a toast in your honour this evening, no matter what the beverage.

Could I suggest a pint of Stella if you want lager or Old Specked Hen if it's beer or maybe a healthy Guinness.

Far be it from me to disagree with a girl on her birthday but Foster's tastes like gnat's piss. We could compromise with Carling Export. :D

It's the fourth decade isn't it? :)
It depends how you look at it. At age 35, I am indeed in my 4th decade on this planet. However, having been born in the '60s, this is my 5th decade, by the calendar (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s).

Don't worry, this has come up in chat before with Moosie and me. We love it really. (I think).

No no I hate it. Stella I mean. I think that, because it's my birthday, you ought to pledge never to drink it again. Ever.

What, never drink Stella again, ever? OK, but only because it's your birthday.
What are you doing tonight? Going out boozing or staying in boozing? Enquiring minds want to know.

thank you :)
I feel rather ill
But on the plus side, I got a box of divine dessert chocolates (ie each one is based on a different dessert) from a friend and am scoffing happily.

I stayed in boozing and a friend came over :). Then I had a big row with my mum. God I really need a place of my own.

Oh sorry to hear about the row with your Mum - families, they drive you nuts.
Glad you had a friend over. As you are feeling a bit ill, that must mean you had something of a good time last night.

Must have been all that chocolate ;)
Chocolate cheesecake chocolate, anyone?
BTW does anyone know how to get a large amount of water off a floor? Our washer has flooded and I've put every towel down but the kitchen is still swimming.

Not sure if you've seen it at the other place, or if you can even follow this link, but phrog started a birthday thread at II (http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=139534) for you Moosey.

Does that room have a door to the exterior? 'Cause then I'd say get a large push broom and shove as much as you can outside. Our washer is in our basement and there's a drain with a removeable cover that I can open in such cases.
Otherwise ... dry mop and bucket? I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Hi Shake,
There's a sort of step before you get into the garden though so can't really push it outside. I put a cpl of my hand-knitted blankets down but they didn't absorb much :(
Aww MooseIbe, what a shame about your kitchen flood and to have put your hand knit blankets down must have been horrible :(
Is it a dealt with now and cleaned up? did you get the washer repaired?

Get some neighborhood dogs to come lap it up? I'm out of ideas.
I thought FEMA, then I thought pumps, and then I thought of something that might actually work. Do you have some garden or anywhere that is lower than the floor level? (Do you still have the flood?) Get a piece of hosepipe, submerge it in the water to fill it, fold, pinch or block one end and carry it to a lower point (the other end must stay under the water in the house). Open the lower end and the water will siphon through. It'll carry on under gravity until the other end is raised higher or air gets in the pipe (keep it pressed to the floor and the lowest point if it's at all uneven) - obviously it won't siphon up the last half-inch or so.

You're brilliant JoeP, that would work perfectly. I hope for MooseIBe's sake that the water has been removed in some less efficient manner by now, but perhaps next time?
