View Full Version : "Is this the right room for an argument -- er, avatar?"

Is this the right place to ask for geek help about avatars? I looked at the prepackaged ones (some pretty neat stuff!) but I didn't see any sports designs. Would anyone know how I could find/use a baseball-type avatar? If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!

Adora and Scotty have both been known to make avatars on commission, so I'd probably wheedle and whine around them first. They might be more likely to see this in the Watering Hole (there are a couple of threads about avatars in there from the early days); I could move it, if you like.

I'd link you to a couple of free avatar sites, but honestly, I have yet to find one that doesn't completely and utterly suck. Your other option would be a Google image search. You can find some pretty unexpected stuff that way.

What kind of sport? Baseball, football, some sport where you ball someone?

A "baseball-type avatar", is maddog's preference, I believe. I don't know if that means an actual picture of a baseball or something general relating to the sport.

Anything along those lines would be great, picture of a baseball, crossed bats, old-time player, diamond, team logo, what you can think of. There's a t-shirt that has "baseball forever" printed on it with a Ty Cobb look-alike sliding into the base. "Casey at the Bat," "Who's on First" or "Abner Doubleday" type pictures. Enlarged baseball-smilie, antenna ball, etc. Whatever comes to mind that's available. Outline, drawing, graphic, photo, painting, whatever.

I'll beg, plead, grovel, salaam, you name it (I'd even -- gasp!! -- pay).

Thanks!

Woops... Sorry about that, Scotty. The good news is it looks like maddog's willing to do pretty much anything for a killer av. :lecher:

Pay, yeah, pay that would be good.

I just took a classic, not much time right now, because we are in a meeting. :D

I always thought Honus Wagner was kind of cool. I particularly like this card cause it was packaged with tobacco and he insisted that it be taken off the market so he wouldn't be a bad role model for the kiddies.

That's not an argument. That's a contradiction!

Yes it is.

And I think this version might be easier to read:

Well Maddog, don't like any of those Avatars?

Okay, here is a little movie for you then (I was playing with Motion, now that my machine is working properly again). Yes everybody, it is just fine, there is nothing HH Den about it.

About 7.5 megs (there is no sound, just in case you were wondering).

Oooh, WOW!! How cool! You guys are FANTASTIC!!

Good choices! (Too MANY good choices!) Let's see, now, Honus Wagner? or Babe Ruth? or (who is that anyway? Shoeless Joe?)? or the logo? Dang it, I'm such a ditherer!!

Umm, umm *closes eyes, throws nerf-dart . . . wumf! Peeks out from under one eyelid* umm, it looks like . . . yes, it's, it's . . . Maddog, Total Babe!!!

Okay, er, now what do I do to "put it in," so to speak?
And, to whom do I send my check? :D

First you right click on the image you want and select "save picture as", then save it to your hard drive. Remember where you save it to. Then click here (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/profile.php?do=editavatar), select "use custom avatar", and click browse to find the image you downloaded. Select the image and click "open". Then click "Save changes" at the bottom of the page, and that should be it. :)

It looks good on you... and, geek that I am, it gives me a little thrill each time I see it. :)
