The picture's awfully dark on my monitor, but judging from the brow ridges, it looks like it's probably the skull of a male. It looks as if it's very thoroughly oxidized and stained, so it's probably pretty old. That it's a skull dug up from a Native American burial site seems a likely explanation.

I understand that it's illegal to dig up American Indian graves as of 1986. I wonder if someone feared prosecution and was trying to get rid of an illegally-acquired skull.
