Okay so tell me how annoying Ann Arbor is. I'm feeling homesick. :(

Aww, I'm sorry. :(
Okay, so there's construction everywhere, and the place is just a big damn mess. Frat boys always cross Washtenaw right in front of my car; one of these days they're going to catch me in a bad mood and I'm going to just accelerate instead of brake. There are like 6000 Starbucks in town now, and the good jazz club recently closed. And it's been damn cold here most of the summer.
Any better?

I read about all the one-ways becoming two-ways in the State and Liberty area. That's just completely freakish to me. Navigating through central campus is supposed to be the domain of the initiated!

God I HATE that! I confess when I was a teenager driving through campus I would occasionally push in the clutch and floor it when I student walked in front of my car, just to watch them jump in terror. I know I was bad. :(

Last time I was there I noticed that what used to be Gratzi Cafe on State and Liberty had converted to Starbucks. I worked there when it was Gratzi.

The Bird of Paradise?!

Oh well that sounds almost appealing to me now. :) It was 91 when we came in from dinner last night, at around 10:00 pm!
Any better?
Better. Thanks. :)

Yup. There are still lots of one-ways, though, so never fear. Even after 2 years I still get lost driving around there half the time. :) Which is why I usually just walk.

And it's even worse now because EVERYONE is always walking and yapping on their cell phones at the same time.

There are at least 2 on Washtenaw as I drive into town as well. And more out in the mall area. Craziness.
The Bird of Paradise?!
Yep. Gone.

It was 60 when I went to the gym this morning. I think we only had maybe 3-5 days all summer where it even hit 90. However, the leaves are turning a bit earlier, so it's really pretty...I mean, uh, the trees are dying and shit, so it looks like a hell-hole with all the dead leaves and stuff. And damn those ash bore beetles (http://www.mastergardenproducts.com/gardenerscorner/emerald_ash_borer.htm) fucking up all the trees!
Better. Thanks. :)
Good. 'Cause I forgot to add in the astronomical housing prices. I don't think they realize this is fucking Michigan and not Manhattan.
And don't even get me started on the football team this year... :)

Eww... Invasion of the Starbucks. Reminds me of that Simpsons episode where they go to a mall for something and when they're on their way out all the storefronts (which had been various different stores on their way in) are all Starbucks.
I can't believe the Bird is gone. Admittedly I never went there much (never really got into Jazz) but that was a landmark. :(
Yum, ash bore beetles and dying trees. :)
Oh yeah, the cost of living. Yeah that place is ridiculous for that reason. Last night I stumbled on the Ann Arbor Is Overrated (http://www.annarborisoverrated.com/) blog and that dude mentions that fact, of course. At first I thought the blog would be just another generic angsty student hating all the things people love about Ann Arbor crapfest, but it's actually fairly entertaining in parts and he had nothing bad to say about Zingerman's, which is a clear sign he's not just out to get the usual suspects.
And football... ugh. God I hate football. I wonder sometimes if I'd hate it as much if I hadn't grown up in Ann Arbor, where the world stops during a game. Do an experiment next time you're bored. Try to find somewhere to go in Ann Arbor on game day where you don't have to hear or see the game. I dare ya. :madrant:

Ann Arbor? I'm gonna be there for something like half an hour sometime Wednesday (or possibly extremely early Thursday).
How can it suck? There is at least one pretty girl there! Better yet, she's helping my wife illustrate a hardcore gay porn comic!

We're stopping there on our route to Atlanta (I can hardly say "on our way", we're driving an extra 250 miles for the pleasure) because one of the people in our studio goes to umich, and we want her at the convention we're going to.
There are two reasons for this:
1. She's twenty, with big boobs, and wears tight t-shirts. Just having her there increases sales.
2. She's twenty, with big boobs, and wears tight t-shirts. This is reason enough. :P
Seriously, she's coming with us to a convention to sell art. To be fair, if she weren't so snuggly, we might just have had her send some art for us to sell at the con.
