Can't sleep. So I'll ramble at you guys, instead. :D

Had a great night on Friday night. Usually I have Zoe from after school Friday, and so I don't get out much in the weekends. Well, not in the nighttime, anyway. But this weekend is different. Zoe is on school holidays for 3 weeks and has gone to Mt. Ruapehu with my mother and some of mum's friends to go skiing. Mum has organised some lessons for her while they're up there, and she's having a ball.

As for me, I had a ball, too. :)

Many of my old friends from, like, way back, are musicians. One of those musos, Paul - a sax player, has a small engineering company that designs and builds asparagus sorting machinery. That came about when he and another friend, TC - a bass player - got stoned one day and invented this machine. Both of them are quite genius, but even then, how the fuck did they come up with an asparagus sorting machine? I dunno. Anyway, it's working and they get to head off to places like the US, Greece, Australia to fit these machines. They also employ another very good old friend of mine - Paul, who plays drums, and a guy from Uruguay - Carlos - who also plays bass.

Anyway, cut a long story short, these guys are all very clever and very laid back in their approach to life, the universe and everything. They work hard all week, and then from about lunch time Friday, they throw the bar-b-que on at the factory, break out a few heinekins and start "schtooging" and jamming, while different people stop by and enjoy the music. This Friday, I got invited to come and hang out with everyone and enjoy the party. It was so cool. The length of the workshop had half a made conveyor steel thingy through it, but the whole place is rigged for sound. Off to one side is band gear. Paul keeps his drums there when he's not needing them for a gig, and everything is set up nicely. As the evening progressed a few more musicians arrived with all their gear and they just jammed on into the night as they felt like it. All up there were 3 guitars, 3 bass guitars, 1 keyboard, 1 saxophone, a drum kit, and an assortment of misc instruments like tamborine, maracas, jews harp, etc. The joints were fat and abundant, the beer was flowing, the music was great and everyone was in an excellent mood. I even got to play cowbell, and added some beats using a couple of drumsticks and hitting assorted engineering equipment. :D

So, yeah. Fun night. :yup:

Oh, and on another note, I was bitching to Paul about my flatmates. I've decided that I really don't want to live with young dumb things. Ouch. That probably sounds really harsh, but believe me, I'm being taken advantage of in my current arrangement, so actually I'm the dumb thing, just not so young. Anyway, Paul wants to move out of his place, but hates the idea of flatmates (unless it's me, as he knows me so well and he enjoys my company), so he has said that if he could have Mohi's room and we're the only ones living there, he would pay the share of the rent that I get from Mo and Glen. So, tomorrow, I have to tell them all that it's time to move on. I hate doing it, but then fuck it - Heidi (Mo's girlfriend) has pretty much been living here for free over the last few months and contributes nothing. She's a nice enough gal, just too young and self-absorbed - and makes a hell of a mess in the kitchen! lol. She just kinda doesn't have a clue, really, and now that I'm so much older than those days where I was the clueless and useless one, I've decided that I'd rather share my house with someone who not only cleans up after themselves and doesn't take the piss, but is also a better conversationalist. Paul fits that profile, and he can cook good, so all's well that ends well.

So, yeah.

Umm...what else can I ramble about while I'm unable to sleep? mmmm....Oh, I dunno.

I got some beer in the fridge - you wanna beer? So, what have you been up to, anyway?

I bet you had a blast, luna, and I bet you'll have even more of one once Paul is in and the cute young things are out. Even if your roomies are cool, there are so many potential annoyances it really is much better for everyone if you live with someone truly compatible.

Too early for beer over here. Besides, I need all my wits about me while I rename the smilie descriptions. :user:

Mo and Heidi are quite limited conversationally, and although both are very likeable people, they are just getting more and more used to me doing everything around here, that they are doing less and less. And Glen's never here anyhow, so no matter there.

Paul is older, has travelled a great deal, is well read, and all that stuff. He also has some reasonable furniture of his own, so the extra (and more comfy) seating in the lounge alone will be a bonus. It'll be refreshing to have someone around to chat with who is actually aware of the world around them, and has some knowledge and opinions about shit. With Heidi it's all the usual gossipy girlie stuff. Mo seems to enjoy talking with me about anything from pondering black holes in space to what's happening in the mid-east, etc, but I think Heidi gets threatened by that, and can go into little sulks if Mo is paying me more attention that he is to her. Which is really silly, as she is young and hot, and I'm am old and not so hot.

Heh. I haven't actually been able to face a beer or a toke today. Too much yesterday.

Why are you renaming the smilie descriptions? Y'know I think we must have the best forum smilie selection in the known universe. Quite possibly in the unknown universe, too. :yup: pz doesn't know what he's missing. :D

Oh well then... It's a done deal. One of the great advantages of roommate setups is scoring somebody else's furniture, appliances and cookware.

I knew you were all talk. :pimp:

Why are you renaming the smilie descriptions?

I'm not changing the filenames or text between colons, just the descriptions you see when you hover over a smilie. JoeP and vm's magnificent search feature deserves some decent descriptions to search through. Lots of the smilies have weird names because I got them from German or French or just plain weird sites, so it would be hard to find anything using normal words as search terms if I didn't clean that up.

Y'know, I think I totally agree. It amazes me that there are so many out there that I could find over a thousand for such a select collection.

pz doesn't know what he's missing. :D

Oh he knows. I made sure he got a good hard look before hooking him up with the disable option. :beaugest:

My washing machine will be thrilled, too. Man, those two can produce so much washing in a week, I can only marvel at the piles of towels and stuff on the laundry floor. I'm certain that Heidi just rewashes shit she can't be bothered putting away.

Yeah, I'm quite looking forward to this change.

I knew you were all talk. :pimp: Shhh. Don't tell anybody else that. They might think I'm a wuss or somethin. And I ain't. I'm tough, man. Whiskey on my cereal each morning, and all that.

Thanks for all your work, liv. (And vm and JoeP) :)

Over a thousand?! Wow. You've been quite a collector and conne... conna.... um, expert.

LOL. Excellent! hehehe....

Well, it's after 5am. I might hit the hay now.

Nighty-night. :)
