So much for my firewall and anti-virus software(AVG 7.1), I got a trojan horse and the anti-virus software can't fix it. It says to heal the file the computer needs to shut down. I have, three times. Then I run the AVG through another 20min. scan, again three times, and it finds the same trojan. I don't know if the two events are one and the same, but when I think I got the trojan a pop-up happened on my screen telling me I can install a casino gambling thing, I clicked the "X" in the upper corner to where it would go away; then it promptly somehow forced itself to become an icon on my desktop. I guess just in case they think I'd change my mind about it at a later time or something? I deleted that into the recycle bin, then cleared the bin. I don't like this trojan, obviously, it's a software disease; how the hell do I get it off? What actions could it be doing within my computer?
Why, why do people create virii, trojans, worms etc.? Do they think people enjoy them? I want to snap these pricks' necks. Dickheads! :fuming:

I discovered some thing lurking on my PC last weekend. I think I've blasted them all, but I want to run some more scans before I'm confident of it.
I found this page helpful:

In my experience AVG is weak against Trojans. I use Avast (http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html) myself.
I've run for months now without a single infection of any kind, either virus or spyware. My setup includes Avast, Microsoft AntiSpy, Spybot S & D and Spyware Blaster. I have Ad Aware also but it seems redundant at this point. My Firewall is Sygate. Also, stay current with your windows updates.

I love Avast. My parents had a spyware infection so enormous that they had to mail me their laptop because nothing I walked them through over the phone worked. I rebuilt it and installed Avast (among other things) and they haven't had a problem since.
My technophobic father is especially delighted with Avast, because I have set it to do audible alerts. He feels very protected everytime the Avast guy tells him a trojan was blocked. :pclove:

What is the name of the alleged Trojan?

AVG is almost useless against Trojans no? Unless they've updated. My Mom had AVG and still got a Trojan Horse.
I wouldn't go back to AVG. I run Norton Anti-Virus which just does a virus scan occasionally and blocks worm attempts but not other things. I clean with Ad-Aware though I need the updated version and Spybot. Ad-Aware and Spybot rarely pick anything up, perhaps because there's nothing to catch. I need another program though I think, what else should I install and run?

Norton sucks. I run AVG and ZoneAlarm and never had a problem. That's more than I can say about the system-hog Norton.

I run AVG on my windoze boxes and it seems fine till now. I used to run Norton, but got fed up of shelling out about forty quid a year for the license renewal (and inevitable 'upgrade' to the latest bloatware every two years or so).

I was gone for a day and saw this thread title! I was soo excited that I was the subject of a thread! ME! :oscarwin: But I was wrong. :sadcheer: The fact it was in the computers section did raise my eyebrows

I'll second ZoneAlarm and add StartupMonitor (http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml) to the list. It'll automatically tell you when a program tries to register itself to run at system startup and allow you to block it.
Good call on StartupMonitor. I always use it.
