Customer: "I want to download the internet. Do I need a bigger hard disk?"
Download the internet here (http://www.w3schools.com/downloadwww.htm)
Haha.
But seriously. Anyone know how to get or make a decent looking hit counter without an ad attached to it?

Great - thanks.
Here's my first foray into "web design," btw: oshyttes.com (http://www.oshyttes.com/index.html)
Dig my cool buttons.
[Edit: lol - I linked to the index page on my C: drive. Duh. Fixed.]

Looking good - nice, clean, uncluttered layout. Maybye add a little flair with css(cascading style sheets)? They're a nice way to do so without mangling your HTML to hades and back.
Personally never saw the point in hit-counters... are more people going to come to your page because it says 5000 as opposed to 127? No. If they're new to your site they wouldn't have seen the hit counters, so it's just showing off for the sake of people that're already there... I suppose they'd be more useful for the webmaster, to get a rough phrenological idea of how much bandwidth is being used...

Thanks. Yeah, I've just been reading about them CSS things. Is that the one that leaves you more exposed to hackers, or is that CGI? Uh.

Me neither really, but a couple of my associates would like to reinstate one, since we were nearing 1,000 hits with the old page (which had a lot of bells and whistles, but looked not so great). They want some "interactive" stuff, like at least a guestbook, but the prepackaged ones I've seen look horrible.
There are some cool looking counters, but the ones I've found so far come attached with an ad, and the counter gets disabled when you remove the link to the ad from the code. I assume the counter has to be connected to some other location on the net? Also, I guess the webhost counts hits too, and I could just look there and post them manually.
A guy could really get addicted to this web design thing alright.

Hey cool site, Scarlatti. I don't know how I miss whole threads for days at a time, but I do. And I was just wondering whatever happened to you...

I can't answer on your question for a site counter, but I did pass around that link to the hilarious graphic. Thanks!

Yeah, I keep thinking one day I'll be a good enough programmer to solve that problem but then I have to wonder why the hundreds of coders before me haven't been able to...

Because they made the same assumption (80% of them, ones who could have a serious attempt at solving a problem, don't because they assume it's ahrd) or they don't think carefully enough about what the problem is (or sometimes laterally enough, to see there could be a solution to part of the problem). Go for it (slowly!).

You're taking a while to finish the site, dood.
:waiting:
Listened to Dirty Lane - sounded good.
No, I lie, actually; it sounded fuckin' awful! Compressed to within a nanothingy of it's life. Which is a shame, 'cos I really wanted to hear it properly. It sounded like a rollicking good tune to get as drunk* as a Dubliner to. :D
* 'Cepting I'm never drinking again, of course - alcohol is poison, and I'll not touch another drop, so help me God!

Hey! I thought it wasn't bad, considering it was recorded with a minidisc laying on a table in the bar. Besides, it was our first gig after about four rehearsals. At least you can hear all the instruments, that was my concern. Who's the asshole with the fake accent, that's what I want to know. Check out the bass player on Mama Don't Allow.

Yeah, yeah, heard it all before, mate. :D
You compressed it using a thirty tonne press, too, right?

And you look a bit like David Byrne. :yup:

I'd love to see you guys live. When are you coming to do some gigs here?

I don't recall doing anything to it. Can't you hear the cymbals?
Get some decent speakers! I'll put some other tunes up later maybe.

I can. :)

I got reasonable speakers! They may not be high end, but they got great reviews - some reviwers even said that they were better than more expensive lines.
Get a decent recording kit!

Yeah, please do. :beagle:
What are the chances of getting a decent rig to record with?

I can get my hands on a Superscope hard disk recorder anytime but I got nothing to record at the moment.

No idea. Everyone's more or less scattered at the moment. Maybe next summer. We've got a couple of offers to play at some Irish Fest deals.
