I guess you probably know that "Short People" was tongue-in-cheek, making fun of bigotry. Would be cool if he mad a similar one making fun of the current pervasive anti-christian bigotry. My favorite song of his "I Love L.A.", became the official song of Los Angeles, "bums" and all:

Hate New York City
It's cold and it's damp
And all the people dressed like monkeys
Let's leave Chicago to the Eskimos
That town's a little too rugged
For you and me, you bad girl

Rollin' down the Imperial Highway
With a big nasty redhead at my side
Santa Ana wind blowin' hot from the north
And we was born to ride

Roll down the window, put down the top
Crank up the Beach Boys, baby
Don't let the music stop
We're gonna ride it till we just can't ride it no more

From the South Bay to the Valley
From the West Side to the East Side
Everybody's very happy
'Cause the sun is shining all the time
Looks like another perfect day

I love L.A. (We love it)
I love L.A. (We love it)

Look at that mountain
Look at that tree
Look at that bum over there, man
He's down on his knees
Look at these women
There ain't nothin' like em nowhere

Century Boulevard (We love it)
Victory Boulevard (We love it)
Santa Monica Boulevard (We love it)
Sixth Street (We love it, we love it)

Your height actually does vary somewhat throughout the day. Not nearly as much as you seem to want, though. You are tallest right after you get up. The amount of the variation is greater the taller you are.

When I hear people speaking about height preferences among their desired sex I just shake my head and move on. Who the fuck cares?

It sounds like you do. :shrug:

How about what you prefer to be height wise?

I'm not obsessed with height, I know what I prefer and what I don't prefer though it ultimately doesn't matter in the end because I love or don't love mostly on other qualities, things that people have control over. My husband for instance, is 5'10 1/2".

I cannot fathom, however, dating someone shorter than me. That is the only thing that might be a glitch for me, but it is possible, were it possible I could date anyone other than my husband, that is. :wink:

MooseIBe

Ah but I don't. I care that other people seem to care, though. These people say I'm short. Which I suppose I am. I am certain'y not tall, but only two inches below average. I've noticed that statistically, the shorter the woman is, the more height differential she will want between herself and the male.

For example, a 5'0" female may want at least a 5'6" male, whereas a 5'6" female may want at least a 5'9" male.

Something like that. But only statistically.

USA* = 5'-9-1/4"
Germany = 5'-8-1/2
Japan = 5'-5-1/8
Netherlands = 5'-11-7/8"

Average female height:
USA = 5'-4"
Germany = 5'-4-1/4"
Japan = 5'-0-1/4"
Netherlands = 5'-6-3/8"

Yes, the average Dutch female is taller than the average Japanese male.

I found another site (shortsupport.org) that had a calculator where you input your height and it would tell you where you were on the bell curve. At 6'-1", I found that there is only 6.3% of the male population taller than I am. The median male height is a little over 5'-8". Suddenly I *feel* very tall. Actually, in Utah, I felt about average because there are a large number of people of Scandinavian descent in Utah, and they're tall. Here in Oklahoma, if I'm in a crowd, I feel tall because I can look over the tops of most people's heads. Weird.

Is anyone else concerned about the massive Dutch height? Is this some sort of Dutch plot to take over the world? Or is it just a sort of "survival of the fittest", based on the fact that most of Holland is under sea level, and everyone under 5' tall has drowned.

Is it just a coincidence that the leviathan Dutch are associated with the following:

"Dutch Treat" = "No treat at all."
"Getting someone in Dutch" = Snitching, getting someone in trouble
"Dutch Uncle" = A stern critic.

And this frightening tidbit: "Tulips are now the #2 selling flower in the U.S.".

One more thing: think how tall Dutch people would be if they didn't all smoke legal marijuana and shoot up with legal heroin.

Weird.

The only time I've ever felt "tall" was when I was in China. That's the only place I've ever been able to look over the tops of the heads of any appreciable number of people.

It was...heady.

I'm the average American girl height--5'4''. Actually a little bit above, but not enough to make it to 5'5''.

Good one, livius! Is there any activity more mind-numbing than "double dutch"?

I'm 5'6" (maybe 5'6½"), or about 169 cm for those of you using the "logical" measurement system :p

Yes... I know, I'm short. I don't have much preference with regards to height, but I prefer not being towered over. A guy can be shorter than me, or taller than me. But I don't want someone WAY taller than me.
6' 0" = average. There's some short guys here, and one tall chick! :D
The average in the US, as has been remarked, is more like 5'9½".

Maybe you were thinking of the Netherlands (http://www.pbs.org/pov/pov2005/bigenough/special_heightgap.html) where the average male height is 6'1". At least according to that article.

I'm guessing you won't like that article.
