This thread is for those little things you encounter in your daily life that occasionally make you go, what a brilliant idea!

For me, this morning I decided that my idea to put a dimmer switch in the bathroom was a brilliant idea. First place I've ever been or lived that had one.
I'm patting myself on the back as we speak. :yup:

:D

Folding one sock inside the other to keep them together. Basic but genius nonetheless.

Actually, not so much. Folding one sock inside the other stretches the elastic and makes them wear out faster.

Penicillin. Now there's a genius discovery, that most people will use at least once in their life, and is taken everyday around the world.

So, when I end up with a bunch of odd socks, I can take comfort from the fact that the ones remaining all have bitchin' elasticity :)?

Indeed. The only thing worse than wearing odd socks is wearing socks that keep falling down.

I don't wear socks at all, thus removing the problem.

I can't think of any genius things :(

Bread and beer.

Wheelbarrows.

Ballpoint pens and paperclips.

Some appropriate quotes, directly from strangecosmos.com:

"But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown." - Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996)

"Everyone is born with genius, but most people only keep it a few minutes." - Edgard Varese (1883 - 1965)

"Genius may have its limitations, but stupidity is not thus handicapped." - Elbert Hubbard (1856 - 1915)

"There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line." - Oscar Levant (1906 - 1972)

"The public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius." - Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Critic as Artist, 1891

"There is no great genius without some touch of madness." - Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD), Epistles

Sweetie, that is a brilliant idea. I always have horrible eye-pain if I have to turn on a light at night. A dimmer would make me very much not die.

I recently learned that I get more work done if I use my Mac's second display to run movies or TV in the background while I'm working. I have tons of movies and TV I want to watch but can't sit still for (VERY short attention span), and tons of work I have to do, but can't sit still for. You get the idea.

I think whoever came up with the idea of cascading hot water with a controllable temperature was a genius.
