For those of you who don't know the Bob and Tom show (http://www.bobandtom.com/gen3/index.htm), it's a nationally syndicated morning show, starring..well...Bob and Tom (along with Kristi Lee and Chick McGee). It's a pretty funny morning show with lots of fake commercials and interviews and other such things.

Anyways, back in February (back when I was still in graduate school) I came into the office early to get some work done and was listening to the show, when the topic of the Tommy Tutone song 867-5309 came up.

Now, a really cool math trivia fact is that the number 8,675,309 is prime (that is, its only divisors (up to a sign) are 1 and itself). So, I dropped them an e-mail to let them know. I got up early each morning for the next few days to see if they'd gotten the e-mail, but they didn't talk about it. So, as time passed on, I forgot about it...

Well, Friday I was laying lazily in bed not too long after my 5am alarm went off, listening to the Bob and Tom show, when they suddenly bring up the Tommy Tutone song and then Tom said that he had a letter from Jack [my real name] about the song.

Well, I got heckled a bit for it (as math geeks usually are heckled), but it was hilarious...and what was cool was that they admitted that they probably will remember that little factoid whenever they hear 867-5309.

So, I don't know if there are any Bob and Tom fans on this board, but if there are...I was the Jack who was laughed at for pointing out the primeness of 8,675,309.

Wow! That is cool!

Both being mentioned on Bob and Tom (I don't get 'em here, but heard them when I was in the military), and 8,675,309 being prime!

... but then, I'm kind of a number geek, myself

Yeah, I did...and I guess I got about the amount of heckling that I expected.

Yeah, a radio station in a town about 45 min. away gets them, but I can't get the radio in my office to pick them up that well. :madrant: However, now that I've gotten a new computer in my office (courtesy of the taxpayers of SD) that has speakers, I should be able to listen in on the internet.

That's really cool, Goliath! I love Bob and Tom, especially the songs they come up with. Have you heard "Prison Bitch?"

Oh absolutely! That's a classic! The very last part of the song is my favorite...where the guy sings the high note, and then grunts a bit, and then picks the note back up.... :D

That is soooo cool! I didn't hear the show that day, though.

(But thanks, now thinking of Bob & Tom songs, I have "wiper, wiper, wiper bla-ha-hades" in my head...)

But what about...

Orange barrels,
orange barrels,
everywhere I see.

Orange barrels,
orange barrels,
looking back at me.

There go Larry, Darryl, and Darryl,
Standing next to the orange barrels
in their orange vest apparel
looking back at me.

:D

If anyone's interested, I think I can get ya a copy of the part of the show where they talk about my e-mail. :)

(And by "get ya", I do not mean* any illegal distribution of any .mp3 files)

* - by "do not mean", I may or may not mean "do not mean for the purposes of not getting sued".

Will do..I'll transfer the .mp3s to my home computer (they're currently on my office computer) and I'll edit them this weekend.
