A perfect end to a great year. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with leukemia, my 23 year old cousin died 2 weeks ago and today my father-in-law died. :depressd:
Fuck.
Merry Christmas. :sadcheer:

I am so so sorry this happened at this time of year, of course it sucks at anytime. How is your spouse doing?

She's doing suprisingly well. But then again, I suppose that this will change once the first shock passes ... :(
Thank you and freemonkey for the kind words.

Damn, that sucks Stormlight. I'm sorry. :(
Stormlight, that is just terrible. Take it a day at a time, and even an hour at a time if you have to. Rely on friends & family to get you all through this.
Best Wishes to all of you

My grandfather died this morning. I leave for Pennsylvania for the funeral at dark o'clock on Christmas morning. Bah humbug.

Thank you all for your kind words and support!
May wife is holding up well (well, better then I would). My mother-in-law, on the other hand, is not. Further bad news: I absolutely have to go to work on Tuesday ... the day of the funeral. That's seriously fucked up. :gloomy:
You can't get time off for a funeral? ... Wtf not?

I will be alone in the department on Tuesday. I guess they'll have to close it down for the afternoon. I'll have to figure something out with the management tomorrow morning.

I'm sure they can get someone to cover for you, or close down the department for the time you need to be gone. What is it that you do (if I'm not prying too much)?

Yeah, I cleared it up with management first thing this morning.
I'm just glad that this horrible year is over.
When things have calmed down a bit here I'm thinking about taking SWMBO for a long weekend to a nice hotel in London. Get her mind of this mess.

As every good Luxembourger I work in a bank. :p

I think that's an excellent idea. Make sure the hotel has a nice spa/salon so she can get a nice massage/pedicure/manicure and feel pampered.
I'm glad you were able to attend the funeral. How is your mother-in-law?

That's the idea. She's never been in London but would really like to see it. :yup:

Hard to say. At the dinner after the funeral she was in a very upbeat mood. Mostly because she was able to meet friends and family she hadn't seen in a very long time. And won't see for some time despite everybody's promises, I guess. As she herself has cancer she's pretty much in constant pain these days. I have the distinct feeling that more trouble is looming on the horizon ... :(

I didn't realize her leukemia was already at the constant pain point. That's awful. I gather the prognosis is not good? :(

No, it's not good. The doctors have all but given up, actually. These last weeks have been pretty horrible, especially the last few days obviously. I sometimes feel like bloody suffocating.
Oh well, we will have to somehow get through this. Sorry if I bummed anyone out with my personal stuff. :woopsie:
