View Full Version : Why hidden?

I don't get why anybody would ever come on as hidden. Do y'all really expect that without anonymity you're going to be inundated by messages and posts directed to you by your raging fans which you simple don't have time to deal with? What's the matter with you?

I've never been hidden until about a month ago, but now hide for three main reasons:

1. I'm a bit embarrassed by how much time I spend here.

2. I don't want anyone monitoring what I read while I am here.

3. Chicks dig it.

4. The Doors, man. The Doors.

One word, fucking stalkers, man. Okay, that was three words. When I self-banned, I still wanted to be able to log in to check my PMs. I didn't want people to know I was logged and try to suck me in by trying to interact with me because they saw me on line. I realize how stupid that was now, because I didn't get one single PM in the week or so I was offline.

you know what? it's an option available to members. I don't think they should be criticized for just choosing an option.

Agreed, Legs. I'm hidden on some boards, visible on others.

I am a private person. I guess I feel it is no one's business if I am on here or not. I never cared for boards that show when you are on or not and I am glad the option is there to choose. However, when I post you know I am here! See I am not hidden, for I am posting for all to see.

I use it when I'm hiding from this crazy person who comes here reads my posts and then throws things I say at me when they are in a mood ... When I say hiding I mean that if I'm not showing online anywhere they don't know that I'm online ... I tend to do it when I'm in a mood :cuckoo:

Merry Christmas fuckers!!

Im only criticising insofar as the only reason I can see - and the only reason which has been presented to me - is that users are worried about other people knowing they are online. I don't get the mentality behind this. Are any of you people Russell Crowe? Because then I would understand why you don't want the whole FF world knowing when you're posting. I had a dream the other night that Russ and I were good mates and he didn't throw anything at me either. But most of you aren't Russ so why do you think anyone else would care when you're online? Like I'm easily the most popular user on the forum and you don't see me getting swamped by fan mail. Somethin's missin'.

I stay hidden because I like to be incognito. In stealth mode, as it were. :lowhat:

It doesn't appear that you read my post. However, it doesn't matter whether you get it or not, for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to be earth shattering, so I don't understand why you are getting your boxers in a knot over it.

I think I might be Russell Crowe, at least in my dreams. I just had a dream that I hired Naomi Watts as a babysitter for my grandson. I'm sure that wouldn't happen even if I were rich, but if I were Russell Crowe... who knows?

justaman, the most popular poster? Hardy-har-har-har, that's rich. Maybe one of the most popular posters, but justy, you're no Russell Crowe.

This describes me pretty well. I don't feel it's anyone else's business where I am or what I'm doing at any given moment. It's certainly not paranoia; it's that I value my privacy. Similarly, I don't feel any particular need to answer the telephone every time it rings (that's why answering machines were invented -- if it's important, I'll pick up or call back), nor do I feel any need to alert anyone else when I decide to go somewhere as to where I'm going or when I'll return.

Besides, I think the "Who's Online" thing can be deceptive. Often, I'll log on, check to see if there's anything that needs my attention, and if not go do something else. But I probably won't bother to log out. So, technically I'd be logged on for hours at a time when I only looked over the site two or three times during that span of time. Someone looking at how long I was logged on and what I was "reading" during that time would get a very mistaken impression of what I was up to.

Cheers,

Michael

Yes, I'm a fountain of rage.

I only even brought it up because I noticed two people who I know for sure must have been doing the hidden thing and I can't for the life of me work out why they have done it. It might be no one else's business if you're online or not, but who says anyone's actually going to make it their business? Delusions and grandeur, baby. You are the all-singing all-dancing crap of the world.

So you noticed that some active posters weren't showing up on the "Who's Online" list, but you don't get why anyone would think their presence or absence on the "Who's Online" list might get noticed?

Damn that was a hard sentence to construct. I wonder what it means on your planet.

Since I haven't registered as "Russell" or "RC" here, I have no problem with being visible. Of course, now that the Crowe is out of the bag I might have to reconsider.

Warn, what you wrote is very clear: there's no reason to be hidden, nobody actually cares.

Incidentally, I'm surprised at how many sock puppets Russ has, but I'm glad to see he chooses this fine forum to post on!

Good on ya, Rusty.

I think I'm hidden, yes? It's hard to tell 'cause I show up for me so.

I think I just did that when I left for that three weeks, I still logged in to visit, go to the chat room, send and receive PM's but I just didn't want to show up on the list just coz someone might feel a sense of satisfaction, though I never said I wouldn't come here.

I don't remember how to turn it back on, I'll look around and see, it's not a big deal. :dunno:

If there's an asterisk next to your name, you're invisible.

It's the first option here (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/profile.php?do=editoptions).

Maybe nobody cares about you.
