A little birdie told me that a certain FF member not only lived in Italy but was actually struck by lightning there.

That's. So. Cool.

I'm drawing you out, Flash. I want to hear the whole story. :storm:

Now who's making FF look bad with misspelled words?

Don't worry, we're not even in Google's top 20 for "lightening".

Struck by lightning? Did it cause you do the St. Vitus dance in St. Vito?

If the lightning was lightening, is it a lessening or lessoning.

Damn it, who has been blabbing their mouth?

Here's the story. When I was 19 years old I was a communications specialist in the US Navy stationed at an Air Force base in San Vito de Normanni, Italy. I was getting ready to take a shower and yes a thunderstorm was going on outside. I reached my hand to the steel knob to turn on the water when lightning ran in on the pipes. I was knocked completely across the room and was unconscious for approximately half an hour. They rushed me by ambulance to the hospital in Brindisi, Italy. My left arm was numb for three days. Other than that I was fine.
That is how I learned that lightning can get you, even if you are inside.
:D

That's such an awesome story, Ex-zombie. Thank you for coming forward about your freakishness. :) We used to play volleyball against the Brindisi team in high school. Those military brats always kicked our asses.

Liv,

You lived in Italy, too? Do tell.

I did indeed. I lived in Rome for 13 years, northern Italy (Milan and Piacenza) for 5. My dad was self-employed for most of that time, so unlike the military and diplomatic corps brats, I went to the same school in Rome (Marymount International (http://www.marymountrome.org/)) for 12 years. It was all girls in my day, but it's co-ed now.

My parents are both from Connecticut originally (they're currently living in my paternal great-grandmother's 18th c. house in CT), but I never actually lived in the United States until I went to Massuchusetts for college.

Did you enjoy your time in Italy, Ex-zombie?

I absolutely loved Italy. I lived in San Vito in a villa for three years. Halfway through my time there I went to Rome for three weeks. Rome is my favorite city in the world. The Italians were splendid to me. Not a bit of the rudeness toward Americans that I hear about nowadays.
I used to spend my Saturday mornings wandering around the markets. The fresh mozzarella was to die for. Also the gelato was excellent, although the richness of it would almost make me pass out. My favorite dish was penne alla arriabiata. When I first began enjoying it though I would shit fire for a few days.
I would go back there to live in a heartbeat given the opportunity.

The living in a heartbeat image is very poetic, even if unintended. :)

Warrenly,

What happened to your story about being struck by lightning? That was one bad ass story.

I hereby formally request you put that story back in.

Seconded. The only lightning strike story I have happened to my great-great grandmother, so it clearly doesn't count. Bring back the good stuff and spare the thread my boring stories.

:protest:I thought it was out of place. This thread became more about St. Vito, Italy than about lightning.
