My mom gave me this bitchin' 18.1" LCD monitor for my BMT graduation, and I can't get enough of it except for this minor problem I just encountered trying to play mahjong in the arcade. The only resolution that seems to work on this thing is 1280 x 1024 pixels. That would be great because I like to have as much shit on my screen as possible at any given time. But those stupid tiles in mahjong are so tiny that I can't tell the difference between the 4 of sticks and the 2 of flowers without craning my neck and squinting. I try to lower the resolution but the thing turns out either all stretchy or all wiggly and jumpy. Am I stuck with this resolution or does anyone have a fix?

You can increase the size of the game (on the right, down a little, it has resolution sizes for the game).
As for the LCD monitor, they have "native" resolutions, and anything other than that resolutioin will look bad, so best to just leave it that way.

I'm at 1024 x 768 and I always resize Mahjong because the default tiles look really tiny to me. That's why I put that tip in the game description.

Yeah, I laughed when I saw that tip. I had been jumping right to the game from the Arcade intro screen. I guess it was the featured game or something yesterday. Oh, and Fuck You for putting mahjong in the arcade. How am I supposed to get anything done?!

Congratulations, you just talked me out of buying an LCD monitor.

Aww, don't say that GD, there are some nice monitors out there, some of them even get 1600x1200 (or so, don't remember the exact number), and I would just leave it at that resolution.
Probably not the best for gamers though.
Price usually turns me off.
The reason for the "native" resolution is because of the pixel size of the liquid crystal. Unless you run the resolution it is designed for, it just doesn't look good. Thus, bigger LCD's get bigger resolutions, usually.

Very true. I doesn't do 'movement' well, so for gaming it would be not too good. I'm not a gamer, though, and for my purposes it's gorgeous. Also, I watch TV on it, and the fuzziness of the moving parts isn't even bad enough to make me crazy.

All the flat panels I've seen at work (which were admittedly low-end NECs) absolutely suck. They're blurry as hell, and we're talking about a basic W2K set up, nothing even remotely graphic intensive.

They must be set at the wrong resolution. Change it to the maximum it will allow and I bet it will be very clear.

Nope. They're at native (1024x768) and still blurry. I know a couple of people have changed to 800x600 because they preferred large and crazy blurry to small and normal blurry, but when I set them up they were at native res. They just suck is all.

Amen, brother. The bigger the corporation the stupider the choices.
