Soooo, been thinking of traveling now that the kids are getting older, and we're beginning to see some of our debt decline.
My friend went to Brazil a few years ago, doesn't strike me as too intriguing.
My sister-in-law went to Cancun (sp?) and Las Vegas not too long ago, the idea doesn't tickle me.
Europe is too expensive, etc.
Soooo, I was thinking, Dominican Republic. :yup:
Thoughts?

My friend just broke up with her pilot boyfriend (and if you date a pilot you get a big discount). :suave:

I know nothing of the Dominican Republic, except that you can grow coca there.

I know nothing either, just be careful who books your trip. See here (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=168044&postcount=9)

I don't know much about the country. I didn't even realize it was a popular tourist destination until Legs' post a couple of days ago.
What is it that draws you to the place, Sweetie?

I know a few people who have holidayed in the Domincan Republic - but quite a few years ago now. From what I recall, they enjoyed it very much but had to stay within the holiday complex as it was quite a dangerous place outside of there. I don't know what the situation is there now.
This might help (http://www.dominicanrepublic.com)

Everbody has been going there lately and it's just that, I really could care less about being in a different country persay, the only thing that intrigues me about travelling is meeting people. That's about it, being away from home and out in the world, getting some sun is fun sure but.
So, lots have people have been going there and there's some really good deals so I thought it might be nice to check out.

Fair enough. I just thought there was something specific about DR that you wanted to do/see given that you could meet people in Vegas, Cancun and Brazil just as well but those places don't inspire you.
Anyway, it looks like a lovely country -- from white sand beaches to white-water rafting in the mountains. Lots of Columbus history there too, I'm sure.

When I was in Puerta Plata with a bunch of guys from work, we set up camp in town and stayed the hell away from the resort, except for a daily round of golf. Most of my DR tales probably aren't suitable for mixed company.

I just don't like the idea of being dropped in a strange country with only me and one other, I would rather travel with people I know, at least at first.
Other than that, they say its a bloody beautiful place.
