"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, *Champagne in one hand,*strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!"

* substitute as you please

Saw this on another board and liked it. Thought I would share

Hmmmm... I guess I have a different philosophy. I am not interested in going to the grave safely and with a well preserved body, but neither am I interested in partying to the last minute. (champagne and strawberries with a used up body).

I would rather go through life deliberately, taking risks, but not to excess, living loosely, but not to excess and going to my grave without any unresolved regrets. Champagne and strawberries and a "WOO HOO" attitude don't do it for me. I might not have any regrets that way, but that would only be because I was never thoughful enough to experience them and correct them.

Sorry to spoil you enthusiasm with my melodrama :D

Taking it in the spirit in which I think it is intended, I tend to agree.

Champagne and strawberries and an endless party laughing and shouting "woohooo!"?

Baby, I am soo there.

In fact, when I was younger I thought that's what my life would be. I got off to a great start....then I ran out of champagne. Bugga.

But it's true - in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

I read it as a directive to live directly in the moment and to take the path less travelled...follow your bliss.

My view is that "Champagne and strawberries", in this instance, can also be a metaphor for releasing oneself from wholesale repression or apathy.

It can mean doing what is generally not expected, balls to the wall and for no other reason than to do it.

This doesn't have to mean something unhealthy, but it can tire the body and consume it.

I am pretty banged up, though, so it should come with a surgeon's general warning or somesuch.

Thanks for sharing, Ladyshea.

To me it means "don't waste your life" and "don't be so cautious that you don't have any fun" - and I agree. :yup:

It's too easy to spend today worrying about tomorrow or feeling bad about yesterday. Which is such a waste of today.

I added the substituion clause for a reason ;). It could be anything in your hands....books, women/men, lube, what the heck ever.

Something else I heard recently is similar "Live the width of your life, not the length of it"

Helen, I like yor wasting of today quote a lot too.

Nice quote. Definitely resonates with me. Too often I feel as though I'm doing nothing more than marking time with each passing day. Although, I don't feel as though I live according to the spirt of this (or the OP) quote, I will say that I am inspired to do so.

Thank you.

Thanks for sharing that, Lady :) It's really resonating with me today as I am preparing to make some big leaps of faith (?!) :parachute: Er... heading out for parts unknown. Into the great wide open! Etc., etc. Basically, taking a chance that involves some risk but also holds the possibility of much greater rewards and a hell of a lot more living than just existing.

:yup:

The OP was interesting...and the message was very anti-xian. Nice. :)

the message was very anti-xian.

I agree with you to some extent - imo, some Christians do fail to make the most of life.

Nevertheless, I found this in the Bible (Ecclesiastes 8:15, New Living Translation):

I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people to do in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life.

 What's your point, Helen? I could just as easily find verses in the book of hate that describe how beautiful heaven supposedly is.

I did not intend the message to be anti-anything. I feel it is pro-living life to the fullest and nothing else. That this sentiment is expressed in some form by many religions, including the verse Helen found, does not surprise me in the least.

My point was to share a Bible verse which to me has a message essentially similar to the OP quote. Since the OP quote is similar to a Bible verse I don't see how the OP quote can be inherently anti-Christian.

I don't doubt that you could easily find verses in the Bible that describe how beautiful heaven is. Is your opinion that the OP quote is anti-Christian based on those verses?

I figure I should live life full now because I get exhausted imagining living for another 20, 30, 40 or whatever years. I can barely imagine 5 or 10 years from now (in which case, I hope I'm essentially in the same boat I am now.)

This has been a test of the emergency consistency system...

Works fine, in my view.

Some would say live each day as if it were your last.

I'd spend a lot of time in jail if I did.

So I live each day KNOWING it may as well be my last, and therefore, refuse to make mistakes or regret anything that I do with my life. Our time comes for all, and while I may have a choice (slightly) in the way that I pass, I feel that the important thing to realize is that no matter how much I may want to escape my body, it has me until I kill myself or get killed, so I might as well take care of it, and perhaps it will reciprocate back.
