Stew Albert, founder of the Youth International Party and a leading character of the 1968 Chicago Democratic Party Convention incident, bought the farm today.

So would "don't ask me, I don't give a damn" be an appropriate response? On a more serious note, did he stay all YIPPIE or did he turn neo-con once he hit 50?

And here I thought this would be about Country Joe.

From what I understand, he stayed the course. Check out his website and blog (http://members.aol.com/stewa/stew.html). Reputedly, he blogged right up to his death.

Cool. I haven't had time to read it all yet, but so far I've learned a new expression: trustfund bombers. That's even better than champagne socialist.

Sadly, I was serious. I didn't get the reference in your comment and forgot about it.
Doh. I read it the first time that he had bought *a* farm, and I'm thinking, so what? I've had a couple of 'em, what's the big deal.
I found this in a blog of his, but the date is old. Still, though, how beautiful a sentiment.
"I knew her when it was all happening in 1968. We were at the center of romance, idealism and adventure. And there were many others, our companions and comrades, and they are now gone. But she is still here, my wife, my living loving link with that time when we inscribed the book of life." Stew Albert 9-29-02

"YIPPEE! we're all gonna die" and "Don't ask me, I don't give a damn" are lines from a protest song performed by Country Joe MacDonald at Woodstock.
It's the next line of the song that gets me. The song has the potential to be relevant today by simply changing the location. And it still rhymes.
