I will brave my hangover to see tom tomorrow. I have borrwed books on CD for the drive. Harry Potter 2 and Beautiful Mind. I saw the Taxi today with Queel Latifa and I thought it was very funny but I was muy barracha and my friends were mad because they said it was not funny but it was and they were sober and couldn't understand. I have got another 100% on my test today and I saw Sneakers for the millionth time. I have 3-day weekend and I have Columbus day off on Monday and Columbus was a bastard but its okay because i have monday off. :) I haven't had it off since 1991 and I remember cuz I missed the quin-ti-cen-tenial or whatnot in 1992. There was more but I forgot.

Tom as in our Tom? Or some other random Tom?

You actually get the day off for Columbus day? Fucking nazi state schools that make us work even though we're technically a government institution...

I hope it's me, 'cause if not some strange woman just called to say she's on the road and headed in this direction. :hide:

I would also like to add that I just saw what may have been the best film I've seen all year. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I haven't decided if it was better than Donnie Darko, but it's a damn close race.

Oh and I'll give 'er a hug for ya Lauri. And I'm sorry you got no holiday Roland. Life simply isn't fair. :(

Yup, that movie rules. Theres a thread (http://eblaforum.org/main/viewtopic.php?t=758) going on about it at ebla... if you want to join in :)

I just saw the Princess Bride for the first time. Brilliant movie. I regret renting it now: I should have bought it.

If she has great hair, it must be ES. :)

And I'm sorry you got no holiday Roland. Life simply isn't fair. :(

Just another reason for you to avoid Ann Arbor, I guess. :yup:

We get Columbus day off here at USD. :D

Except they call it "Native American Day"

Yes, I have Columbus Day off. It's one of the perks of working for the Fed. I am finally out here in a real city with real people and traffic and shops and Tom and Ian are being fabulous, gracious hosts. :) I watched The House of Yes for the first time, and that movie is fabulous, too!

I don't get Columbus Day off either. However, I get a full week for thanksgiving, and some of my friends (few), don't.

It was! And it was really great to see her. She was looking for a relaxing weekend away from the base, and we gave it to her. We had a weekend long movie marathon, and saw:

Harry Potter I
Harry Potter II

Which she had brought with her, plus:

The House of Yes
Blade Runner (Directors Cut)
Beautiful Girls

Which we own.

Lots of fun. :)

Just another reason for you to avoid Ann Arbor, I guess. :yup:
Thanks Roland. :)

Is the director's cut of Blade Runner better? I heard Scott didn't like the voiceover, which to my mind added a lot of style to the movie. Even moreso because of Ford's deadpan voice acting (ironically, IIRC, he deliberately tried to be as unemotional as possible because he didn't like it either and hoped they would take it out if he sounded boring)

Honestly I've seen the director's cut so many times now over the years that I don't remember the original film. It's probably been 15 yrs. since I saw the first one. I vaguely remember the narration but I don't remember any details or the original ending.

Beautiful Girls

I know I've discussed it with vm before, but for the rest of you, watch this movie!

I hear ya, sister!

I resemble that remark!

And they make you take off the 25th of December, too. For some strange reason. I personally think from the solstice to the last bowl game should be one, long extended holiday.

I don't get Columbus Day off or Veterans Day either (and I'm a vet, damnit!), but that's OK, because my company uses these as floating holidays to give us all the days from Xmas day through New Years off with pay! [/gloat]

I just saw the Princess Bride for the first time. Brilliant movie. I regret renting it now: I should have bought it.
... and you also realized it's not a chick flick, right?

Also not a chick flick! Had I known, I may have seen it years earlier.

Hehe, the thought never crossed my mind. What type of chick flick would feature rodents of unusual size? :)

Of course, seeing as my total experience with chick flicks is falling asleep about fifteen minutes into 'How to knit an American Quilt' or something like that, I may not be the best judge on this matter.

One where the rodents were encouraged to express their true feelings and come to terms with the shortcomings in their relationship with their mothers?

Well, it was a poor attempt to bring another member into the discussion ... one who maintains it is a chick flick.
