I had to make myself not vote for them all.

All hail the hoard!

The simple solution to the problem of my inability to vote is simple. Make the polls private. I don't see why making them public is such a huge deal.

I disagree. I think they should remain public.

I'm pretty sure that we all now want to know the opinion of MonCapitan2002 on smilies. That's the big deal.

You are in the minority with respect to this issue. I wish we didn't have to go over this every poll...

Hey, Crump...

Would it be possible to rerun this poll where each polled gets to vote for just one smiley?

Crumb
03-05-2006, 07:21 PM
no.

The reason we have this song and dance routine everytime is because I do want to participate. The fact that the poll is public effectively bars me from participating. As a result, I tend to complain about the fact that poll is public since by virtue of it being public, I cannot vote. What is the big deal with making the respondents' choices public? Why is it so important for you to know how people vote? Are you obsessed with knowing such things or something?

:yeahthat:

MonCap, you know these polls are going to be public. It's not like it's a life or death decision.

Because we believe it's interesting to know who voted for what smiley. It's that easy. You are self-imposing this requirement that it be private. The one private poll we had, you told everybody how you voted. Now... I think you lied. :D Making it public removes all doubt.

I honestly don't know what the big deal is about making your choice of smilies public. It's smilies, for cryin' out loud. It's not like somebody's life is going to be changed on the basis of these poll votes. Or the laws of the land will be enforced differently. It's amusment. If you wish to hide from the amusement, that's your problem, not mine. I'd rather not hear about it. Again. And again. And again. Put it in your sig, make it incessant, and I could place it on ignore.

Fine. I will vote this one time. Crumples will not like the result, though.

MonCapitan2002
03-05-2006, 09:25 PM
Done. I just voted for every single nominated smilie. :P Now try guessing which ones I wanted to win. :D I happen to like every single smilie listed in the poll so all my choices are valid. I also remember reading that Crumpy doesn't like it when people choose all of them. How do you like them apples Crumples!

I want to know who voted for what. I don't want to have to wade through 30 posts to keep tabs either.

MC, give it a rest. Besides, if you've got nothing to hide why are you behaving so guiltily?

I can't believe how strong all the candidates are.None stronger than :hulkout:. Although :giant: could be capable of some damage, and I wouldn't like to meet :emostein:'s Smilie on a dark night.

You forgot :inquisit: JoeP. That little guy is worse 'cause you never see him coming...

:hulkout: truly rocks, doesn't he? Can you believe he was criz's second emote ever? :emostein: was just a few after that.

You make a good point there. He is an Inquisitor after all. He can easily burn apostates and heretics at the stake. JoeP, I will defend my contention that these polls should be kept private. I happen to think the Hulk Smash smilie would get its ass kicked by the giant.

Wow, :wish: is in the lead. Who knew we were such a sentimental crowd?

None more sentimental than me, just look at my choices.

Still, this is an incredibly strong pack of contenders this month. I just love how the hoard just gets better and better.

I didn't notice :longing: in the nomination round (hey, I'm on Vicodin, I'm not responsible for missing the obvious). Glad it made the vote, because from the moment I saw it, I thought it was one of the most adorably cute smilies ever created.

MonCapitan2002

It is certainly an adorable little smilie. I think I nominated it.

I actually think that's an outcome of allowing each polled to cast multiple votes. As is the 10+ scores on the scenarios (disco & horror) may well be, too. I think if everybody got just one vote, the outcome would have fewer such contenders.

I think :hulkout: would probably have gotten my vote, but finished in relation to the two horror scenarios much the same as it did here.

And MonCapitan2002? I appreciate seeing the product of your obviously critical discernment in the matter of smilies. I hope to see more in the future.

Yanno Crumple? I think at the after the March poll we should should have a poll for the best smilies of the first quarter of 2006. The top four vote getters from the January, February, and March polls should be included. What do you think of the idea?

If we are stalled at a tie, we can always have a run-off poll.

Crumb
03-08-2006, 04:20 PM
Actually we are not stalled at a tie. :wish: is ahead by a vote. So what I really meant to say is: "We need to bring this wish guy down!"

This is a very intriguing idea, and I am considering it. I am considering other ways of producing more smiley contendors for smiley of 2006, but using your system we would have 16 just from this, so I would only need 24 to get to the two heats of 12 that I was hoping for.

This would be a sure thing if you could come up with a nifty title that the quarterly winners should receive.

MC, I thought you were going to create a sockpuppet account with which to vote with?

BTW: How long was the poll open for? Less than 72 hours?

Given that we're a worldwide MB, I suppose the four seasons wouldn't technically work ... but it's a possibility, no?
