Day before yesterday, I was at my local Barnes and Nobles (a big book store) and they had a table with a lot of election related books, some anti-Bush, and some pro-Bush. Every single one of the anti-Bush books had been turned over so the back of the book was visible, and not the front. Well, I turned them all over the right way around.

Next day I'm in the video store, and there's Fahrenheit 9/11 and it's turned around backwards. Then I notice all the Michael Moore videos -- bowling for columbine, and some episodes of some TV show he had which I forget the name of -- are also turned around. So I turned them around.

There was an article in the local paper recently about people turning around Michael Moore's books and videos in the local stores. It seems to be a depressingly common tactic nowadays.

If the thug admin should cheat their way into the White house for a second term I don't think that book and video burnings will become become an impossibility.

Fear and wilful ignorance are just so bloody thought stifling.

Do any of you remember the scene from Cabaret where the blond young nazis stand up and sing "Tomorrow belongs to me"?

Tis not to far a stretch to imagine thuggish fundies jumping up and singing something very similar. As I have said elsewhere, not even Orwell was able to conceive of the scenario unfolding right before our eyes.
