I love The Teaching Company (http://www.teach12.com). They gave me a link to a free lecture and encouraged me to forward the link to my friends.

Well, friends, here it is: St. Peter's Basilica (http://www.teach12.com/ttcx/StPeterBasilica2006.aspx?ai=20785&pc=Campaign)

On April 18, Rome will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of St. Peter's Basilica by Pope Julius II ... It was built on the site of the Circus of Nero, and Catholic tradition holds that St. Peter, the original disciple of Jesus Christ and the first Pope of the Catholic Church, was crucified and buried where the current church now stands.

Oh sweet, nourishing deliciousness. That's my plans for the evening settled. :wriggle:

Okay, I'm finally getting around to listening to this now ( :blush2: ) and it's really fantastic. When he talks about the Reformation it sounds like he's saying Martin Luther nailed his 95 feces to the church door. :ffgiggle:

You're ahead of me. I posted the link here because 1) I thought you'd get a kick out of it, liv and 2) I hoped I'd be less likely to forget to listen to it.

Happily, I'm right so far on my first premise. :)

Fire it up, Sharon! It's not very long at all. Professor Bartlett has a nice voice, he sounds polished but he stumbles a couple of times just to ensure you feel the disarming leather-patched tweediness of him. :aww:
