Easy game and a chance to learn stuff about each other.

Post 2 truths and a lie about yourself...

Other members will try and spot the lie while also posting two truths & a lie about themselves.

Be sure to remember and come back and tell us which was the :pinocchio: Everyone can make guesses about everyone, you don't have to take turns.

Me

- I've never been fired
- I've never been to Cartegena
- I love Barry Manilow music

Spot the lie. :P

Ooh, too hard to choose! They all seem very plausible.

I'm going to go with the "eaten rattlesnake" one (i.e., you haven't eaten rattlesnake.) With strong leanings toward Big Bend, since I bet you've been there but maybe didn't get the chance to hike it or something like that.

Yup, it's Big Bend. I have been there, but I didn't get a chance to hike.

When I was an incorrigible 12-year old, I shot my little brother in the face with a piece of ground shell (Southern gravel) flung from my beanie-flipper (slingshot).

BTW, rattlesnake does taste like chicken.

Heh... That I was...that I was.

I did make it to second class (big whup) in the Boy Sprouts before dropping out. When you recite the "Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, disobedient, brave, thrifty and irreverant", or "irrelevant", it's only a matter of time. I hit that at 14.

Two things put me off of the Boy Scouts: the god stuff and the militarism. It's like we were being trained to be "good little soldiers". We did a lot of "standing at attention" and "having inspection". And since the troop was sponsored by the local Methodist church, there was a fair amount of godtalk going on around me. I liked the outdoors part, that was fun, but regular meetings were a pain in the ass. Little brownshirts. I'm a boomer, though, so the guys running the programs, the dads, were WWII vets.

Dingfod
04-27-2006, 06:46 AM
My Scout troop was much more laid back. Our Scoutmaster was a mortician, young and a really cool guy. Our meetings were very informal, much of it involved sitting around on couches in the church youth group room and many many games of ping-pong. We went on campouts a lot, much more than most other troops. On those campouts, we did a lot of fun things, like hide-and-seek in the dark with the boundaries so large our in-bounds area might have been 150 acres or more. We did play Capture The Flag with buffalo gourds for handgrenades. I had a lot of fun in Boy Scouts even though the Scoutmaster didn't molest me. However, I always wished his wife would.

I was a scout from Beavers to Ventures. (Basically, the whole range). The Scouting Association I was familiar with (British, mainly) seems far removed from what I gather the American Scouting Association is. God rarely entered the equation (though a belief in -something- is a requirement). The standing at attention and inspections don't strike me as being bad things for a kid to learn. A bit of discipline and pride in appearance, especially in places that don't have school uniforms. I get the feeling I was ironing and sewing at a much earlier age because of the scouts than I would have been otherwise. Not that I do it much these days though.

Yeah... The outdoor gigs were always fun. Just getting out and running around in the woods was fun. No molesting at all. Just vet dads reliving their "glory days". I learned my first dirty joke in the Boy Sprouts. I seem to remember my picking up a lot of stuff "on the street path" info about...:nudge:...them.

I believe you are too good a driver to get run off the road by something like that.Actually, I did while trying to smack the beast I ran over 4 reflector poles on a curve on the McBride's Canyon road. This happened on the way home from a Boy Scout campout with four other Boy Scouts and all of our gear in the car. Fortunately, I didn't wreck.

I've had tire blowouts, one at about 70 mph that beat the crap out of the left rear fender of my 1964 Pontiac Tempest, but never one at 100 mph.

You're right! Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail is a goal, but not something I've managed to accomplish yet, sadly. (I've hiked some of the Appalachian Trail though.)

A friend of mine has a very friendly gopher snake named George, so I decided to borrow him one day to use as a "prop" for a lecture on reptiles. It was a cold day, so I let George burrow down into my shirt while I walked across campus. He settled in quite comfortably, so I left him there. I walked into the classroom, commenced my lecture, and about 20 minutes into it, just as I was about to "introduce" him anyway, George chose to crawl out the left sleeve of my shirt -- much to the consternation of some of the people in the first row!

One night, when I was 18, I was walking along a lonely country road when a truck approached. It stopped and the driver's side window rolled down. The driver pointed a rifle (or shotgun -- it was too dark to be certain) at me and told me that he was going to shoot me. I was carrying a large hunting knife on me, and from the way that he was speaking, I was convinced that -- for whatever bizaare reason -- he really intended to shoot me. (I could smell alcohol, so that might have had something to do with it.)

So, I decided my only hope was to try to kill him. I got the knife into my hand without him noticing and was tensing to jump, hoping that I'd be able to knock the gun aside with one hand while thrusting the knife at his throat with the other.

And just as I was about to jump forward, he laughed, pulled the gun back, and sped off. I'll never know if he had simply decided to play a cruel joke on some random stranger he encountered on the road, or he was disconcerted because I didn't react the way he expected, or what.

In any event, I'm awfully glad he sped off when he did. Another 2 seconds or so, and one or both of us would have been seriously wounded or dead.

That's not something I ever want to experience again!

Cheers,

Michael

Actually, I considered the shaving pretty seriously once, and for exactly the superficial reason I mentioned. I never did go through with it.

And the hat thing is true. Despite the fact that I wear a hat so often, I have very few photos of me with a hat on. I think this is because I'm generally told to take it off by the photographer. Just like most of my early pictures of my wife show her without glasses, despite her wearing glasses almost all of her waking hours....her mother had drilled it into her to remove her glasses for photo sessions; she did it almost unconsciously. Anyway, I've had acquaintances that I've know for years tell me that they didn't know I was losing my hair because they hadn't seen the top of my head in years.

The one that is a lie was regarding my mother's father. pescifish I've never been to a strip club <-- :nope:

I bet you have :naughty:It wasn't until I read this, that I realized I'd made the sexist mistake of thinking only in terms of nekkie women. I had forgotten that I went to a bachelorette party once to the famous Chippendales club in the early 80s. That was a degrading (to women) fucking waste of time. I felt badly for my friend getting married as the asshole dancers made fun of the girls they didn't think were hawt (and they didn't think she was hawt.)

This was before male stripping became something for gay guys, it seems. The strippers and the men waiting until after the show when the club opened up for male customers were all obviously on the prowl for women who they thought would be all riled up and ripe for the pickin'.

I would, however, have liked to have gone to a nekkie women strip club, I think. I don't get the impression the women dancers make fun of their customers, at least to their faces.

I think all of them are mostly true statements from the same incident. Perhaps there is one minor detail in one of them that you changed to make it a lie. I'm guessing the last is the lie:

- you didn't throw up on the passenger next to you (you are too polite for that!).

You threw up all over yourself, not the passenger. Then in a desire to return to a presentable state, you took a change of clothes to the bathroom to get cleaned up, but in your drunkeness you did so in the cockpit instead. Since this is very odd behavior, you were detained by security at the airport when you landed. :detect:

I did change in the cockpit of a jet, because I knew the pilots and I was sitting in the jump seat.

I did get detained by security at DFW Airport because I had a Nintendo game in my carry on (gift for a nephew) and it had a toy gun thing in it that the e-ray picked up.

I don't get the impression the women dancers make fun of their customers, at least to their faces.
Forgive me if I've told this story before. I've only been to a few strip clubs in my life. The last time I went was about 10 years ago in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Grand Rapids is known for having a church on every corner and - as far as I could tell - only one strip club. Anyway apparently the routine there was that a woman would come out from the back, dance around on the stage a bit, then step down and go walking table to table, stopping to dance in front of each customer for a minute. (I don't think lapdance is the appropriate term when the customers are on barstools). Then they'd wait for a tip.

Well, I hadn't expected this scenario so I didn't have much cash on me. I'd only intended to have a beer, watch some naked women dancing on stage and leave. So when it occurred to me that the only way out of tipping was to explicitly tell the women not to dance at my table. So the next woman that came by (ironically the one I found most attractive) I waved her on.

She was pissed! She's over at a table 15 ft. away dancing in front of some other dude, and she sees me looking at her and yells "Don't look at me! You don't want to pay for it, don't look!" There was a slight playfulness to her tone, but I could tell she was serious. It was humiliating but fair enough. If I had been prepared to give a dollar to every woman that danced (and there were a lot of them) and I had known a dollar was enough (I wasn't up on the tipping etiquette either) I would've been happy to oblige.
