Yeah, all this time and no beer thread? :omg:

Well spit it out, heathens! What's your favorite brewski?

As for me, I'm a major fan of Newcastle Brown Ale, Bitburger Pils, Licher Pils, Sam Adams Winter Lager, and of course, Guinness.

Holy shit, Liv! 2,000 posts. Congratulations, I think.

Dortmunder Union is a great German beer, but I haven't had it in ages. I don't experiment much with beer anymore. I usually just drink Heineken. Of course, I rarely drink these days, so it's not a big deal to me anymore.

Yeah, like Cool Hand the Toad does'nt drink very much anymore .... tummy does'nt care for it :( . However when I do, then Guinness draft is my preferred poison.

Way back when the glaciers began to recede I liked something called MacKuen's (spl) nut brown ale, but then I was but a callow youth. What the hell did I know about taste, or even quality.

Worse beer I ever had the misfortune to imbibe was something called "Stork Beer", a local brand in Rabat Morocco. Odd is it not how unpleasant memories linger. I am of the belief that said beer had been lovingly filtered through the kidneys of a horse, twice, before bottling.

Dortmunder Union, but only if I'm in Germany

Sadly deprived of decent beer here, except Guinness and (not great but not bad, also brewed by Guinness) Kilkenny. When I can get it, Marston's Pedigree. Or Boddingtons.

Never seen it in SA, but one of my favourite ever beers is Chimay.

guiness is foul, foul beer.

the best beer I have ever drunk is from Gordon Birsch, a brewery and restaurant in atlanta. it is one of my two favorite places to eat at in atl.

the other being carro de brio, a brazilian steakhouse.

Gordon Birsch only serves beer that they brew there, the waiters and waitresses are all very knowledgable about beer and their dunkless is the perfect fucking beer. Dark, smooth, full bodied, no aftertaste, uberuberuberbadass.

Never been to carro, but Fogo de Chao is THE Brazilian steakhouse in Atlanta. I get a beef hangover from eating there. A huge plus is that it's a blast to watch the waiters appear instantly when you flip over your token from red to green. That alone is worth the prix fixe. Is there anything cooler in a restaurant than having one gaucho dude after another put various cuts of beef on your plate from huge skewers?

I don't really go to bars anymore, which is where I used to drink a range of different stuff, but I still do like, in the winter, doppelbocks and stouts--I don't even remember the brands I favored, but there was this one chocolate stout they used to have at Cherry Cricket sometimes that completely rawked, and Guiness is a little bland or something for me--and I like pilsners in the summer sometimes--I think German and Bohemian. I still buy Grolsch sometimes, partly because I want to reuse the bottles someday to brew my own. Or send them to GD so he can do it for me.

As a default beer, though, I love ESBs. I always have Red Hook ESB in the beer drawer (used to be some kind of "food" drawer) in the refrigerator, and I lurve me some St. Charles ESB at the Wynkoop, although I don't think I've ever seen that in bottles. I sometimes get Flying Dog stuff, too. Their Road Dog Scottish Ale is probably my favorite. And their labels are by Ralph Steadman, which makes it taste even better.

I confess I don't like Guinness either, but I've never said that out loud before. I've always believed it was illegal for a serious drunk not to like it.

I'm with GD on the Pilsner Urquell. Wonderful stuff. And Weizenbier. Yum.

Alas, alcohol doesn't like me as much as I like it, so I don't drink at all now.

Just in case anyone actually tries to find this, it's Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout.

Since I'm from Canada, obviously I think mine are the best beers in the world, delightful stuff like La Fin du Monde and the various Boreales. I highly recommend Flying Dog Brewery (http://www.flyingdogales.com/). I mean, how can you go wrong with a brewery that was founded by Hunter S. Thompson? With brews such as Road Dog, Tire Biter, Doggy Style and In Heat Wheat, they definitely have a sense of humor. Oh, and you gotta love their motto: "Good Beer, No Shit." And it IS good beer. Road Dog is my personal favorite. They only do ales though, so if you prefer lagers you might not like it as much as I do.

Pete's Wicked Ale is also pretty good. I second the OP's mention of Newcastle as well. I'm surprised nobody has named Bass Ale. Can you tell that I like ales? :)

South America has a lot of good beers. Ones that stand out in my memory are a Brazilian brew called Brahma Chopp, and Antartica.

For buy-at-the-store type stuff, I like Newcastle and Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde in the summer. For a light beer, ice cold on a hot summer day, Amstel Light is okey dokey for me.

I like various microbrews and there are quite a few around here. Newport Beach Brewing Company's "Newport Beach Blonde" is a favorite as well as Steelhead Brewing Company's "Raging Rhino Red".

When I visit local brewing companies I like to try the sampler thingies, and usually tend to like the pale ales and reds. The stouts are almost invariably too heavy for my taste, although aforementioned NB Brew Co has a special chocolate stout they brew occasionally that is pretty damn good.

I don't really get these references to Hefeweizen as a girly beer. I first drank it at the little bar outside the base when I was stationed in W. Germany, as did many other really manly soldiers just like me. Not only was it some primo shit, but pouring it took real skill. The trick was to put the glass over the bottle, then flip them both and verrrrrrrry slowly lift the bottle straight up. This allowed you to pour it as quickly as possible without it foaming all over the place. Plus it had the added benefit of being a fairly good way for the staff to measure whether you'd had too much. When you break the glass in the process, you get kicked out. Easy peasy. :P

Don't take my post wrong, I love Hefeweizens. I have a severe sensitivity to bitter tastes making most beer pretty much a nonconsumable for me, but the wheat beers aren't nearly as bitter to me and I actually like the taste of it. But, I can live without the lemon slice.

Lemons and limes are for Corona, Corona needs something to make it taste good. Now, there's your human piss beer, Corona.

Heh. ya gotta wonder about a beer that needs a lemon wedge to make it drinkable. I wonder how the yuppies who drink that crap would react if they knew that it's the Mexican equivalent of Milwaukee's Best?

But I have had worse. French beer is atrocious. Well, I suppose there could be one that doesn't suck but Corona and even the mass produced American swill is ambrosia compared to the brews I tried when I was in France. There's a Spanish beer that was common when I was there, whose name escapes me. Wait... San Miguel! That was it. However, the after effects make Montezuma's Revenge seem mild. I quickly learned that when you want a beer in Southern Europe, order Amstel. It's available almost everywhere there, and isn't bad for a lager. Of course, when in Southern Europe wine is generally preferred over beer, but this is a beer thread.

My brother who is in AA likes to say "I'm allergic to alcohol, everytime I drink I break out in handcuffs". My Dad used to say, "I didn't get in trouble with the law every time I drank, but every time I got in trouble with the law I had been drinking". I have a new favorite beer. It is the Black Butte Porter from the Deschutes Brewary. The popularity of the brand may be limited to the northwest, but I saw the beer in a top-5 list somewhere. It is the antidote for all you Guinness junkies, because it resembles the taste of Guiness except it is more pure and complete. It has an aftertaste you won't regret, also.
