I know there must be a way to find a password in my hard drive somewhere, right? It's been stored on my computer for automatic sign-in to Yahoo Messenger; it has to be SOMEWHERE, doesn't it? :sadcheer:

Sonnet. It's likely its stored in an encrypted form so you won't be able to actually use what's literally stored.
However, here are a few things you can try (I assume you've lost your automatic sign-on settings):
---
It appears you can recover your password at the Yahoo site simply by confirming the birthday, postal code and country associated with your account and entering your Yahoo ID:
http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_forgot_pw?new=1&.done=http://messenger.yahoo.com&.src=pg&partner=&.partner=&.intl=us&pkg=&stepid=&.last=
---
It may be stored in the Windows registry. Click Start, then Run on the Windows taskbar then type "regedit" and hit Enter.
Look for Yahoo Instant Messenger Registry keys in the registry. If there are any they will be under one of the following keys:
My Computer->HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Yahoo Something
My Computer->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->Yahoo Something
You may find a registry entry for your password.
---
Open "My Computer" then right-click and select search/find, then search for files and folders containing your Yahoo ID. The password might be in a file with the ID.
---
The only other thing I can think of is that you can get this piece of software:
http://www.elcomsoft.com/aimpr.html
It recovers locally stored passwords for AIM, YIM, MSIM and ICQ but the shareware version is useless (only recovers up to 3 digit passwords) so you'd have to fork out $30 and wait up to 2 days for a registration number to use it in a useful way.

You say it is stored for 'automatic sign-in.' I take it then when you launch the messenger program the password shows up as little asterisks? If so, then there are programs which will decode them for you.

I got signed out by a friend who wanted to use Yahoo IM, and then couldn't get back in. I've logged in automatically for so long that I'd forgotten what it was. So now it's not where it was before. :(
