View Full Version : Sticking It To The Man

The Man owns companies that make stuff. The Man tells them to charge a certain price for it(sometimes far higher than what it's worth). Here's a few examples: fire paste (http://www.rei.com/product/37168.htm)
Sterno (http://survivalsolutions.com/cgi-bin/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SS&Product_Code=Cooking+10&Category_Code=Camp)
That tube is about the size of a tube of tooth paste. I know this because I've seen it in an outdoors store. Fuck that!
You can make your own in bulk for really cheap. Here's how:
Ingredients:
2/3 flour (the white stuff you make bread with, not the reproductive organ of angiosperms)
1/3 flammable liquid (alcohol, used oil out of your car, gasoline etc.)
Obviously using gas is going to make it very flammable, so be careful when you light it.
Directions:
Put the flour and flammable liquid in a container that won't react with the hydrocarbons(plastic containers are a bad idea, unless you know they're fuel proof) Stir until the mixture has a dough-like texture.
Then you just put the stuff in resealable container(again, something non-reactive) for when you go camping.
I haven't tried it yet, but mixing corn syrup into it might make it sticky so it will cling to your camp wood well. I've also not made it with motor oil yet, so that might be what you'd want to make it with if you're going for sticky.
Obviously the more liquid you add the thinner and more runny it will make the mix, so you can tweak it to just the properties you want.

Sterno is a fine invention. However it costs too much. The best thing to do is buy some cans of it once and from then on recycle them by filling it with your own mix. All you do is liquify some paraffin wax(can be bought in bulk at a local craft store) and add some denatured alcohol to it and stir it in. Pour it into the empty Sterno can and let it harden to solid(or gel up if you added that much alcohol) Depending on how flammable you want your pseudo-sterno the more alcohol you add. If you're not wanting to cook food over it you could get crazy and make hellfire wax, which is made the same way except instead of denatured alcohol you use gasoline or charcoal-lighter fluid. Cubes, strips etc.. of hellfire wax is good for starting campfires, brush piles etc..

How do you stick it to The Man?

Yes me too, in Girl Scouts, only we cut some corrugated cardboard in strips and rolled them up and put them in a can (like a tuna can) and poured the wax mixture in and allowed it to dry......then we took coffee can and made a cut out in the side and puncture holes on top (with old fashioned can /bottle opener.....and wallah that was the burner......http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/images/smilies/klap2.gif we need girl Scout/Guide smillie

I have this one Coke glass--you know, the curvy glass and it says "Coca Cola" on it--but I always put different things from Coke in it. Like iced tea or water or whatever.

I embezzled $150 million from a pension scheme for low-income seniors and sick orphans.

Take that, Mr. Bureaucrat!

I once used my debit card for a meal at a restaurant and the charge never came out of my bank account. :pumps arm:

Amazon sent me The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) by mistake and I kept it.

I used to make my own beer, thereby not participating in the American mega-brewery industry. Then I gained ten pounds, got lazy, and decided to stop. So while I stuck it to the man for a few years, I came to realize that I was really only sticking it to myself.

Is there such a thing as gay irony?

Far out. To think, I just spend $4 on a fat Parker pen at Big Lots and thought I was sticking it to the man.

Make your own night vision camera (http://www.badacetechshow.com/nvc.htm).
Certainly it's not even close to as good as what the military uses (those don't need an IR flashlight to see by, among other things), but it also costs a hell of a lot less too.

On the pyro end... growing up the redneck fire-starter was called "Jug Mud" It was a mix of diesel, burnt motor oil, and sand (I think). That stuff could start a fire in a hurricane.
Most of the time we just used lighterknot its the best stuff for the money cause its free and laying on the ground.

does dvd, music, and computer program piracy for personal use constitute "sticking it to the man"?

One time, I got this bowl that said "Dog" on it, but I totally used it as a cat bowl.

Does that count?

Sorry, no.

It counts as sticking it to the cats, though, right?

That's almost the same thing.
