I don't understand how these work but they appear to be legitimate. Any ideas?

The first one looks like it may be legit, but the info out there is sketchy and scarce. Here's a NY Times article (http://tech2.nytimes.com/mem/technology/techreview.html?res=9D00E1DC163FF93BA25751C1A9659C8B63) on it. I haven't looked in to the second and third ones yet.

looks cool, but for the asking price of $18,500 I think I will keep saving for the large screen hdtv instead. I am sure bill Gates has a few though.

It'll come down eventully. I'd pay three or four thousand for a high-def one that can project a volumetric image you can walk around without it disappearing(like those things in star wars movies). That'd be so cool. Astronomy class would be even better with one of those. Show a CG star going nova or a black hole accreting gas from its binary partner. Imagine the artwork one could create on a computer of the future and project it into the air. I could daydream about the possibilities for hours.

Oh I agree, it would be way cool to have one, but not for 18.5K. If they were in HDTV range I would consider it. Course only if I could use it for playing xbox :gamefreak

What would be cool about it would be it could serve as both a flat "screen" tv and show 3D objects you could wave your hand through(someday). Is your avatar Haruko?

Could be, I just chose it for the scowl and WTF expression. If the character has a name I don't know what it is.

That's understandable, if you didn't have the patent yet you wouldn't want to say "Here's how it works.........." I'd come to the conclusion a year ago that free air displays were impossible. Looks like I'm wrong, and I'm glad on this. Hopefully they will tell how it works soon. I want to know so bad.
