Calling all avatar artists, especially adora, freemonkey, scotty and ymir's blood. I'm looking for someone to make me an avatar on the theme "mood swing kitten". :signpls:

The general idea is a kitten on a swing, happy at one end and sad at the other.

It could be a photorealistic kitten but I suspect it'll have to be cartoon-style to have clear facial expressions. I'm a fan of Sandra Boyton (http://sandraboynton.com/) ("You are visitor Bizzzillion and then some.") but I'd rather use copyright-free material.

In (some) theory the sad point should be the low point not one end. I suppose that could work out.

It should animate fairly slowly ... I think it will be difficult to get many frames into the size limit for the board, but hmm.

Beyond that I'm open to suggestions from the experts

Sorry Joe, I don't have the artistic talent, so all I can say is see the attached.

I like Scotty's effort. Here's a transparent version:

Hmm... He's cute but it looks like he goes flat/sad/flat/devious instead of flat/sad/flat/happy.

Well, that was where it ended up, because I was laughing at how crappy my drawing was (because, I have no talent artistically) so I thought I would just say "Sad/indifferent/screw off!"

;)

Ohhh... I get it. He's flippin' the bird. Man, I missed that in the banana smilie too. I'm not sure why I find it so hard to notice bird flipping. Must be a vitamin deficiency.

Anyway it's obviously a cat and you conveyed emotion. You're more of an artist than me.

I will try and come up with something. :yup:

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get to this. Anyway, here's what I came up with. The green isn't meant to be permanent. I can make it another color or transparent if you choose it.

Wow, scotty and ymir's. I didn't mean for anyone to actually draw stuff - that seems like lots of effort (I imagined cut and paste and blending existing pictures). I'm impressed with both and will use them...

But (and now I feel mean :sadnana:) neither are quite what I want. I really want happy-sad, not sad-fuckyou or happy-rwrrr. 'Sblood, yours looks like a startled or angry pose; looks great, but not what I have in mind.

Maybe I should do it myself if I'm going to be so particular. :D What tools do you use?

Photoshopping emotions onto a cat would probably take a lot more work that just doing a cartoon kitty.

I should have gone back and reread the OP before getting started last night. :\

The cat pretty much goes through the normal range of cat emotions. Does anyone have suggestions on what a sad kitty expression would be?

I started out doing what you want, but was just lauging at how crappy I draw (I gave my Wacom tables to my nephew, so my crappy drawings look even worse just drawing with the mouse) so I gave up and just went with the simple easy to manage "mean" look ;)

As for tools, it was Photoshop and Imageready.

I can try to make another one.

I would think that at least 10 images would be a good transition, but I am pretty sure with the image size, you can get abou 5-6 frames before it is too big (unless it is very simple), but I could be wrong.

The cat pretty much goes through the normal range of cat emotions. But I don't want a cat qua Felis catus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat). I want to represent the range of my emotions!

Does anyone have suggestions on what a sad kitty expression would be?This, from Chocolate: The Consuming Passion (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0894801996/qid=1099236806/):

Well, the best I could do with it. I know you didn't want to take copywrited stuff, so don't take this, just look at it (I think it is too big for an avatar anyway, too many frames).

Well shit, I couldn't upload it so I will put it on my server.

Oh, I see between the time I saw this thread and I made the image, you already had a version.

I didn't like the "look" of it at really low resolution, so that I why my version is so "big" as it were :)

Yes, sorry!

I agree mine is too low in colour resolution. I did some arbitrary colour-depth reduction (the frames are 16-colours) but there would be room for several more shades.

Still room for improvement ... plus if anyone can find public domain similar images that would be great ... plusplus I still like the idea of the kitty being on a swing (though it would have to be a lot smaller in the 100x100 pixel frame...).

Scotty, I clipped the 'neutral' frame out to make yours fit inside the 24K limit (and added transparency and changed the timings). It's much smoother than mine!

You are right, I had an extra non-used frame in there, I forgot to remove the background image. Good for you!

:)
