The main FF page loaded up and I was treated to this quote:
I believe in getting into hot water; it keeps you clean.-G.K. Chesterton
Can someone explain why this is anything to quote? Does it have some clever or hidden meaning that I'm missing? Is it supposed to be humorous in some way? I ask because I just don't get it, it seems just a stupid quote. Most of G.K. Chesterton's stuff in the generator I get and like in one way or another, but this one is just an enigma.

Getting into hot water is a euphemism for getting into trouble.

:yeahthat:
I assumed it meant not being shy of controversy/conflict when it matters, being willing to do what it takes to to set things right (keeps you on your toes and honest to/with yourself: clean.)

Like many of that great religious figure's bon mots, this one is derived from Chesterton's Dark Ages views of mankind. It was written prior to the invention of the shower, when people actually believed that wallowing in a tepid pool of their own bodily filth would make them clean.

Hi Crumb,
Some of us are sporting bumper-stickers, like: "Skaters on ice_:D_stay out of hot water" (ISIA)
and
I wonder where the *Pair-skaters* (smilie-emoticon) here is hiding; do you know?

I thought bumperstickers were supposed to the sported on cars and trucks not on people. Don't they get fall off in the shower after a while?

I fail to see how that bumper-sticker, is "just like"
ours,
saying: Skaters on ice_:D_stay out of hot water (ISIA: standing for Ice-Skating-Institute(of)America)
