Oh, I know - we're all watching it - it's awesome!!! I'm glad it's a clear night and that the moon is in a position where it's not obscured by trees.
It's mostly in shadow here now, too.

I can just imagine the ancient mayan priests about now...they would have been pitching this for a few weeks now...and this would be payoff time. They predicted a blood red moon...here it is...bring on the virgins.
Sigh. I can't even wangle a threesome out of it.

Crystal clear skies tonight and it's absolutely amazing here, too! Been watching it for 'bout the last hour. :)

Right place, right time, right ladies of contextually-aware virtue and you'll be the envy of sylvan Pan himself.

Wow...it really does turn red...this is rather fuzzy due to no tripod...

A little inversion of a negative, and voila:
Our beautiful moon dancing through the sky.
(Yes, I took this.)

Oh, yeah, my first few attempts looked like that too! :giggle:

There... a fulfilled prophecy....finally.

Bleh. I *have* a tripod and my pics are all blurry because the moon's so dark, the camera has to expose for long enough for it to move.

Here's my attempt. 400mm lens on Canon Digital Rebel (1.6x so... 640mm equivalent, exposed for 1/4th sec, I think, on a tripod, of course.)
I just cropped it, didn't do any other editing.

Holy shit, GW! Heh. Yeah, those were my exact words when I pulled it up on the computer and saw how huge it was.
One more detail about how I took it that I forgot to mention. I used the timer function, to minimize vibration.

Very cool eclipse, its not usually clear enough to catch it, but it was beautiful this evening!
I don't think it was quite this red, but close.

I swear I did not do this on purpose, it has not been Photoshopped, and I have no idea how it happened.

And finally, I did do this one on purpose, but it still didn't come out like I hope it would:

Blah. I knew there was an eclipse tonight, but the place's covered with a blanket of impenetrable fog.

Singing rooty-toot-toot for the moon
It's the biggest star I've ever seen
It's a pearl of wisdom, a slice of green cheese
And it's burning just like kerosene

nothing to see here. It's been overcast for over a week.
Missed this one (as totality was something like 4am), but we saw the one in May.
Discovered an unexpected kind of eclipse photograph (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap040926.html) earlier today: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0409/eclipse99_mir.jpg
(1999 solar eclipse)

Yeah, it's like something out of a Hollywood disaster movie. (Only real and better.)
