Ok, the wording under this forum said "television" so I guess this is the right place.

I hate commercials in general, except of course the ones I like (like the flip-top head cartoon creatures in the Red Bull commercials). And I don't watch a whole lot of TV, but tonight I turned the boob tube on to watch a particular show.

McDonald's has this seemingly neverending ad campaign revolving around the slogan "I'm lovin' it".

I HATE IT! It makes me :madrant: (<--- new fave smilie). It is so fucking annoying and bourgeois-hip that I want to barf every time I hear it.

I can relate, but you have to admit that the sausage McMuffin with egg is the bomb.

Yes. That slogan is an evil one indeed. :bull: (<-- my new fave)

On the other hand, if I gather right from one commercial i saw on mute during the breaks in game four of the World Series, those McDonald's fuckers are offering a ride pimping prize. A. Ride. Pimping. Prize.

Actually, I prefer the BK Croissanwich (although the commercial for that is both creepy and annoying).

Edited to say: 85

5*17, of course! :giggle:

I dunno...dantonac started the trendy (?) reply to me by replying to one of my posts with literally nothing other than "12".

I guess I could respond to dantonac's future posts by stating theorems (that have nothing whatsoever to do with any of the quoted material in said posts)?

I have a love/hate relationship with advertising. I really appreciate it when it's well done, but sometimes it's just so disgustingly evil it really turns my stomach. For example the big fold-out Jaguar ad I pulled from Wired magazine today, where each page explained how their car violated one of the "seven deadly sins". It was just a bit disturbing (as in too close to the truth) to see such a blatant endorsement of the greed, gluttony, sloth, envy, etc. inherent in our excessive consumer culture.

For the record I was just trying to present you with your own quotes without adding to them.

The policy of this board is no post may be made unless a minimum of 2 characters are in it (original characters, that is).

The two characters I chose were 1 and 2, hence the 12.

Ehe hee. I don't watch enough commercial TV to really get effected by ads these days. Though when I do watch it, I am a constant "flicker" because of it. As soon as one programme goes into an ad I'll flick to another until I find a show I want to watch. I can watch up to 4 TV shows at once. Terrible habit, but it's still better than ads.

Just for that, I want you to read all of these four papers (http://www.usd.edu/~jmaney/pub.htm) and write a report to present in front of the entire class!

I used to be a sitcommie....a fellow watcher. For some strange reason, lately, I've not watched much television. I don't miss it much and I don't have all the new jingles rattling around in my head (just all the old ones). So I guess I'm no longer a sitcommie...
...does that make me a dot.commie?

And, is that an improvement? Or not?

Commercials, what the fuck are they? I have'nt watched TV for three years and I only listen to commercial free radio, and like vm I have the luxury of having a superior morality that only the poverty-stricken can afford.

So stick that in yer ears all you homo consumens anxiety ridden bastards

Hatin' it too. That is one of the most unpleasant ad campaigns around. I know my opinion here isn't coloured by the fact that I don't enjoy any McDonalds products. Stinkin' slime.

I often switch over when commercials annoy me. At least I turn the sound down; here, they have an annoying habit of making the programme volume lower than the ad volume so they really blare out at you. Hmm, I even flip radio channels in the car when ads annoy me.

Wretched ad campaign. Much as I hated McDonald's before I saw those, I hate them infinitely more now. What I think is even worse are those ads they run specifically targeting minorities. I'm a pasty white bastard, but if I were black and saw one of their condescending-ass spots blaring fake rap music at me while basketball playing black guys down Big Macs and exchange high fives, I'd construct a simple molotov cocktail from a McFlurry cup and turn the nearest Micky D's into the towering inferno. Hell, I still might.

Weirdest ad on uk tv right now is one for Malaysian Airlines. It shows a succession of 'arty' shots filmed apparently in an English park or garden.

WTF it has to do with airlines I have no idea.

How the airline expects to gain any extra business by running this expensive campaign is beyond me. Does any airline really believe that ads, other than the most basic, 'we fly you to Miami cheaper than anyone else does' variety, have any effect?

Bleh, I hate commercials. The only commercials I will watch are the ones during the SuperBowl.

I think they're probably appealing to the wannabe riche business travellers, none of whom care about ticket price because the company is paying. I suspect the lure with that add is the sense of luxury, privacy, privilege, and using formal English gardens as opposed to "exotic" Malaysian imagery is perhaps more likely to trigger those kinds of associations in a UK audience.

Just talking out my ass, though. I really have little idea of what advertisers are thinking.
