View Full Version : Happy Father's Day to the FF Dads
I hope you are all enjoying your day. :yup:
HG and I gave Widget a whole whack of new golf shirts and he has gone golfing for the afternoon.
Tonight we are having a :weber: at my Brothers to celebrate FD with our Dad.
Anyone else have special plans today?
:D
I have been given some chocs and a fancy back-loofah. Tonight ... quite soon in fact ... we'll be going to munch some Italian food.
eta: I haven't given my dad anything because he's 6000 miles away from my home and either 150 or several hundred miles away from his home (going to see one of my sisters then crossing the channel to go to a friend's wedding anniversary in Norway).

Daughter and grandaughter and wife took me for lunch at Hot Belly Mamas - your cajun dining choice in eastern Ontario.
Hey, the one in Peterborough? I was there for lunch too... did you see me at the bar?

I had a nice, relaxing day inside, keeping cool from the 90ºF+ weather outside. Spent some quality time with each of my boys and got nice cards (one from the wife, and another from the boys).
In the evening, I put my 5-year-old on the phone with my dad, expecting to get the phone back after a minute or two, but he chatted away for over 25 minutes! Dad and I had a nice talk about that afterwards.
I didn't necessarily care about doing anything special — I actually let my wife take a nap — but was just happy to have a calm, relaxing day.

Mine wasn't ideal, but it had a couple of nice surprises. My wife is still recovering from oral surgery, and my daughter has a bad cold. So between getting up several times the night before to medicate my wife, and get the Li'l Puppet back to sleep after coughing awake, I was pretty groggy when I got up with my daughter at 6:30 to let the wife sleep. When she got up, she asked if I wanted to take a nap. "Nah," I answered, "I've drunk too much coffee to sleep now, anyway." I then promptly fell asleep and was out for 2.5 hours. I woke up to find my daughter outside playing in the kiddie pool, and 2 gifts for me on the counter. I thought my wife hadn't had the time to get me anything, but it turns out my mom had shopped for her, and she'd gotten me some sentimental cards to go with them. In all, a much better day than I'd expected.
One gift was a heart-shaped frame with an adorable pic of my daughter, which now graces my desk at work.

Hey...wouldn't it be a turn up if some dads were...
...no, I won't go there. It's too bitchy even for La Peche Rouge to say.

Got some artsy stuff from the kids that they made at school, but I actually discourage them and the wff from making a deal about father's day.
It is a pretty clear case of a Hallmark Holiday, you have to admit. I tell the wee monkeys that I know they love me from the way they treat me year-round. They don't have to spend their savings (or their mom's money) for one day in the year just to feel like they're doing right by me.
I'm sceptical of any of the Love Means Buy Something concocted holidays.
Though I did happen to go by the butcher's on Saturday and pick up some really nice bacon, which did happen to get made into an Unusually Nice Brunch on Sunday...

I might be skeptical of the same type of holidays, but that doesn't mean I don't want presents. Without these holidays, I never would have completed my collection of Timmverse DVDs (B:TAS, S:TAS, Batman Beyond and now Justice League Unlimited).
This Father's Day I got a graphics card upgrade for my home computer. Woo! The new "Rise and Fall: Civlizations at War" is gonna look great on my computer. Now, I can watch Julius Caesar decimate entire hordes of Egyptians, Greeks and Persians in full 3D glory.
