It the best I could do.
... and there are no behavioral rules to speek of there either.
Your reputation for accuracy in grammar, spelling and so on is clearly misplaced. :glare:

Stupid interfering life.Is that your excuse? :hmph:

I know you haven't made any specific accusations in this thread yet, but before anyone does I would like to say a word or two in livius' defense. To begin with, the first example while technically bad spelling/grammar, is clearly a simple typo. I doubt very much that livius would confuse the meaning of 'it' and 'it's'. In the second case, I blame both the anti-phonetic nature of the English language and the fact that livius was raised with two primary languages. Plus I think 'speek' is just cute. :P

I should point out that I only ever claimed anality over formatting, not spelling or grammar. I'm actually a horrible proofreader and because of the way I massage a sentence - changing the order of things, the parts of speech, etc. - you'll usually find something broken in all of my posts. The spelling/grammar Nazi title has been thrust upon me, neither solicited nor deserved.

There you go, implying that I was about to make accusations. Why does everyone assume that everything posted on this board is some kind of attack? I'm fed up. This is the last time I'm going to post in this thread, and if you react so defensively again, I will put you on ignore. :tongueincheek: :tongue3: :tongueincheek: :tongue3: :tongueincheek: :tongue3:

Thank you for that correction. I must admit I picked up the "spelling/grammar Nazi title" from others and was never comfortable about its truth. I just like poking fun at people. :pokes: I'll drop this one though, it's no fun if it's got no truth in it.

Just as I've grown to rely on typing and can no longer handwrite legibly without great effort, I have grown to rely on spellcheckers and in particular spellcheck-as-you-type (no matter how stupid I thought it looked when I first used MS Word 97). So I often find I've posted garbled stuff on online boards.

You don't have to answer this, but is your spelling - as opposed to your typing - good? Would you catch 'speek' in a visual proofread?

My spelling is fine, but I do have a bunch of blindspot words. "Speek" isn't one of them, and is likely to have been a corruption of "speech" from a previous version of the sentence, but there are lots of words that I almost always get wrong because they just look so right to me I can't believe they're wrong, ya know?

Ironically, I'm something of a spelling and grammar nazi* in recovery. I used to think people who have problems with spelling or using standard English grammar and punctuation were morons or, more charitably, functionally illiterate. Then I became friends with a really smart and knowledgeable guy who couldn't spell or write to save his life. The first couple times he e-mailed me I was stunned. And so came to realize that poor spelling and grammar don't an idiot make.

*I can never remember if nazi is capitalized... and I have a bad habit of abusing ellipses (if that's the correct plural)... :D
