This is a thread where players and non-players can chit chat about the game but no actual game play is to take place here.

What happens if a villager is wrongly accused and killed or tortured?

They die and are out of the game.
I cut and pasted a lot of this from Mafia threads at IIDB so if I haven't explained enough general rules please let me know.

Since the Lounge is for registered users only and some of the members here are banned from or not registered at IIDB, it'd probably be better to explain gameplay here.
Besides, I'm lazy and don't feel like logging in there every time a question comes up.

There is a decent sum up in the game and sign up threads, do you have any particular questions?
Spenser
07-20-2006, 08:02 PM
Here it is again:
Wikipedia has a good article on this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf_%28game%29)
Further, at IIDB we are playing both Mafia and Werewolf. I am assuming this one is played the same as our Mafia version;
12 players, 1 possible cop, 1 possible doc, 1 - 4 Mafia.
At night the cop choose's some one to learn if they are innocent or Mafia
The Doc choose some one to protect from a Mafia kill
The Mafia colaborate to kill some one.
During the day every one talks and votes on who to lynch, the town trying to kill scum (mafia).
No PMs allowed accept by the Mafia at night to decide who to kill, no action in the game thread at night.
How's that for a quick sum up?

There was once a young boy and mother who lived alone. The mother gave the boy a duck and asked him to go to the town market to sell it, so they could buy food for that week. The boy grabbed his duck and made his way down to the market. When he arrived, he passed a tent with a hooker in it. The hooker whispered to the boy, "If you give me that duck, I'll let you have sex with me." The little boy threw the duck into the tent and jumped on top of the hooker. The hooker enjoyed the roll in the hay so much that she offered the boy the duck back if he would go another round with her. The boy agreed, had sex with her again and got the duck back. He then looked at the time and realized that while he was with the woman, the market had closed for the day and that he was going to have to go home without any money for his duck.
He headed home with his duck on the leash down the windy road that leads to his village. Then suddenly, a car came speeding by and hit his duck, sending it into the air, which killed it. The guy stopped his car and feeling bad for the kid, he handed him 15 dollars to replace the duck. The kid then made his way to his house, where his mother asked him about his day. "Well, son," his mother said, "What did you get for the duck?" The boy answered, "I got a fuck for a duck, a duck for a fuck, and 15 bucks for a fucked up duck."

bey's had a family emergency and won't be able to post again until tomorrow at the earliest. His mom broke her hip and the hospital computer will only let him send PMs, no reading or posting.
I posted this in the game thread originally but then thought it more appropriate here.
Spenser, is there a procedure in place for such eventualities? Like should people contact you privately if they can't participate for legitimate non-tactical reasons? Because it seems to me there's a risk that kind of thing could be interpreted as part of the game and result in a lynching.

I couldn't say anything last night without giving away my role, so I kept quiet. I know a few things, but now I'm dead.
But you did not have a special role. Even docs and cops are townies too, until they die or reveal themselves. I had hoped you would come back and tell us what you knew, or thought you knew, or at least had some reasoning that could help the village. I guess you can tell us after the game is over now. Such a waste.
quiet bear
07-21-2006, 08:15 PM

Crumb

Townies should tell what they think they know in public. They don't have to sneak around. Everyone is pretending to be a townie so whatever you think you have found on someone they will attempt to publicly defend themselves. Townies are the ones who don't have to be sneaky.

I know you guys are anxious but I can't call day break too fast. I may or may not have all the PMs already but I wait to make sure every one playing has at least been logged in during the night. (Beyelzu is an exception due to family problems, if he is mafia his buddies can decide the kill, if he is cop or doc then I will chose randomly for him, that is unless he logs on before day break) so hang tight.

Gee, I wonder if Jacey maybe slept in late. I wonder if Jacey was hoping the lynch heat would move off of him and he'd survive the night so he'd get another investigation (I don't mind telling that two possibles were Viscous and Smilin). I wonder if Jacey was going to help the town figure out who the mafia is once he got more information. Instead what I got was:
1) OMFG Jacey's suspicious he's experienced and hasn't posted much!!!!!!!!!!1111111111
2) Legs being suspicious of everyone, including Sam Rosenthal and Jimmy Conway, who aren't even playing.
3) Coming out as cop and being suspected of lying (well, liv should say that).

Yes, there is no reason for Jacey to lie about being the cop now that the vote is final. Unless he is just making us suffer.
Would the Mob know that Jacey was the cop? If Jacey is a cop/townie then Crumb and Smilin are Mafia IMO
viscousmemories
07-23-2006, 08:49 PM
Yes, the mafia all know each other. During the night they communicate via PM to decide who to kill, then PM their decision to Spenser. For example the first night they assassinated Random Thoughts. Only Spenser knows who the cop is until the cop outs himself to the group.
I know they know each other, I was just wondering if they know who the cop, doc is. but I see from your answer only Spenser knows that.
When the Mob meets to vote who to whack - they could by chance get the cop or doc.
Smilin

The doc can protect someone from the mafia at night. No one can protect a lynch victim.

Well I don't think we should feel too bad about lyching Jacey. Crumb's argument was that Jacey wasn't acting like he has in past games where he was an ordinary villager, and sure enough he wasn't an ordinary villager. Unfortunately it just so happens he was a cop, not mafia. I think I probably would've stuck with my vote for him even if he had presented his defense in time.

You would have lynched anyway?
Not a very good idea. If he claims to know a mafia for sure, it's rather easy to check him out. Just lynch the accused and find out! To lynch him just as he comes out risks not getting another valuable viewing- which is what happened. Sorry Jacey that I wasn't online earlier!
And I believe I discussed earlier why the cop cannot strongly accuse their viewing? Did anyone read that post? The mafia are looking for exactly such tells so they can kill the cop before the views are revealed. It is a smart move not to accuse and especially not to be a first and single accuser.

Yes, there are several reasons for the reason I played. I can't honestly say how I would've played if I were mafia, since I've never had an evil character, but it sure wouldn't have been how it turned out.
As it lay, the case against me had no evidence and was simply based on the fact that I was an experienced player. Good for the mafia to kill me, bad for the town. I tried to point this out to keep my cover as the cop and that brought only more people down on me.
And for your knowledge, in this game I acted pretty much the same as I have in all the mafia games.
Great job guys.
Jacey

Just kill a potential innocent to find out? Damn trillian, you're cold-blooded. Where the hell were you earlier? :D
It would've signed my death warrant to indict an innocent, so there was no value in doing it.
I sort of wonder, as a new player, how the game changes once you've been through a few iterations with a given group. I mean, Jacey says that's always how he plays, but we didn't know that, so it looked suspicious. Similarly, for example, we now know that Legs and Smilin are talkative and quick with the accusations so, if we play again and they behave differently, will their acting differently be a tell that they have different roles than they have this game?
viscousmemories
07-24-2006, 01:32 AM

You didn't give much of a defense of yourself and then reluctantly accused livius (without giving a reason) when there were already six votes against you. I would've been much less suspicious if you'd given some, any reason for choosing livius. Then Adam voted, making it a majority vote to lynch you. So if I understand the rules, technically you had already been lynched before you came out as a cop and exposed liv as mafia. So I don't see how we could've done anything with the info if we'd wanted to.
viscousmemories
07-24-2006, 01:37 AM
Yeah Adam, I'm sure the game changes a lot as people get to know each other's habits, but there should always be newbs jumping in to mix it up and make it interesting. I think that's part of the coolness of it.

There was actually nothing I did that looked suspicious. There are several playing who didn't make very many posts and didn't draw much suspicion.
With 3 mafia I really needed to make it an extra day.
Jumping out and accusing liv? No no, if they paid any attention the mafia would know immediately that I was the cop.
vm, what defense could I have given that would've:
a) let me live
b) keep my cover as the cop
I'll tell you........none, because no one cited any sort of evidence against me, save a single post sort of trying to put in a word for Legs. The evidence was "oh he's experienced" and "oh he's experienced but he's not doing much," when I was actually reading and trying to figure out likely mafia partners and who to investigate. Then when I wake up this morning I'm just about lynched, and what could I do then?
I'm experienced to know what's going to happen now, the town will have a tough time.
There was actually nothing I did that looked suspicious.
Well, obviously, you did something that looked suspicious, or else we wouldn't have lynched you (sorry). :P That's part of what I was wondering, if the things that look supicious to us now would not look suspicious after we have more experience of both the game and the habits of other players, and if things that look innocuous to me now might look suspicious after I've played a couple times.

:spirit:
Jacey, you got really lucking picking liv to investigate. I wonder why you chose her first, above everyone else.

Well, I've learned about being quick on the draw. But I'm a total noob to the game and am just beginning to understand strategy.
It will be interesting how I and Legs will act when the roles have reversed. I've thought about that quite extensively.
At least through Jacey's death we now Know that liv is mafia scum. :mafioso:

I was approaching with the logic that since him and spenser were friends, that he would have been Maria. Seems he was made the cop instead.

At least we know the liv DEFINATELY is mafia!!! :muahaha:
I can understand that reasoning at first, but not once it was clear that the roles were assigned at random.

Oh, I actually don't mind that at all. I find it rather fabulously amusing that the cop paid the ultimate price for busting me. The fact that I am now going to get the axe is part of the deliciousness of it all. I wasn't lying about being a confused n00b. I have a question for you more experienced Mafia players out there. Does bad blood ever linger from one of these games? I look at the Mafia threads over at IIDB and I see a lot of old history being brought up. I'd imagine that not only would that change the dynamics of a game, but I hope it doesn't lead to hard feelings between players.
It's probably nothing, I've been known to be a little over-sensitive about these kinds of things.
Spenser
07-24-2006, 10:47 PM
It is easy to get heated in a game but I find it goes away shortly after. Remember, its only a game. The only time I got mad for real at a player was this one who wouldn't relent on calling me names and what not and it went a bit to far above the game. There is no reason to call some one stupid or an idiot and even if you get heated and it slips it should be a one time occurrence and not turn into flaming.
As a GM I will be looking for this type of stuff and ways to ease it. But don't be surprised if you get angry a few times, it really sucks being the first to die or ganged up on knowing you are innocent.
It's just a game IMO, Imay think someone is a rat but I still love them to pieces :squeezle:

Hey, dumb question, based on spenser's (I think) recommendation in the other thread that, if anything, we should all play in invisible mode...
If I go invisible, do I still show as being in the chat room when I'm there (on the :ff: main page, not in the chatroom itself)? I ask b/c I thought not, but Crumb said he'd been invisible for some time, and I see when he's in the chat room.

Why off me? You'll lose two townies as a result if you do that? I shared the evidence in light of trying to do what's in the towns best interest. That's how I've been playing the game (which obviously isn't the smart way to play)
Please take no offense in what I say and use it if you play in the future.
I would have voted to off you myself were I still alive. You did not play the game well at all. Myself and trillian, both being good guys were trying to stand back and figure out how all the new players played the game. Me, I had a role that with 3 mafia out there, is vital to the success of the town. trillian* wanted to keep a lowered profile so she could examine voting patterns to try and flush out likely suspects.
There was no reason to bandwagon me. I'm not bitter about it, just frustrated because I really enjoy these games. I still have no idea why you plucked me out of thin air and made many posts (PSSSSST, JAYCEE!!!!) trying to get me offed. There was no way I could refute anything you said because there was no "case" against me. You may think I was not playing, but I was watching almost every post, and hitting refresh quite often to see the new ones. With 13 players I know nothing about I need to make my investigations count, sticking my nose in would only get me killed by the mafia.
Why would I possibly have wanted to make a case for liv on day 2, as has been suggested? Liv knows she's mafia, and she'd done nothing to deserve a case made against her, YET. So exactly why did you jump to liv's rescue saying she's a n00b like yourself? I know you're a townie as spenser will soon reveal, so why? This more than anything got you killed.
I decided to bandwagon, knowing the mafia would most likely not kill me on night 2 if I did nothing incredibly overt. With 3 mafia out there, getting one isn't terribly significant because there are still 2 left, and at that point several innocents are dead. Myself and trillian didn't come out immediately and try to figure out anything on day 1 like some of you wanted us to do (and found suspicious that we didn't) because you are all over the place. Neither of us could figure out WTF was going on.
*we talked last night but I'm mostly guessing at what she was doing because she's smrt

The doc will obviously know who he protected and that the mafia went for them, and the mafia will know that player was protected, the town will know only if the doc outs himself and tells everyone

I really regret not getting into this game, but I knew I'd be out of town a couple days. Plus I wasn't sure how this game would evolve, not having read the IIDB threads. But I read the entire game thread here, and I rarely read an entire thread I'm not posting in.
I suppose it wouldn't be fair to add quotes from the game to the Generator.
She wasn't going anywhere. We had all day to lynch her.
But damn, it's tempting. :choices:

If we get enough folks on the next one we can make it very interesting. If people can agree on a set time we can do a game of Werewolf...

Nooooooooo! he can't be a townie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Smilin you totally acted guilty, I've never seen anyone act more guilty (except maybe that Scott Peterson dude)
I'm sorry
and I hope you get your problems worked out :huggle:
Well, in real life such as I have been in the game, I'm usually my own worst enemy.
When will I learn?
Probably never, but it is what it is. The demons I create for myself I have to live with. :sigh:

I'll be there, so long as I can work out away-time without bogging down the game. I probably couldn't commit to the Werewolf time format.

Yeah, I'd probably have to stay away from Werewolf for the same reasons. And I'll probably alternate Mafia game participation.

Werewolf seems like the advanced version to me. It may be better to get a little more experience with mafia.

I'm a glutton for punishment and will probably jump right in on the next one wei. I get too wrapped up in the forum and the game, but DAYYUUMM..it's addicting, isn't it?
I'll definitely play again, but I might have to shy away from werewolf and the time committment. I have days when i can post from work and days when I have 6-8 hours of solid meetings and don't see my desk all day.

Very addicting, but for the sake of my own sanity and gainful employment, it'd be best for me to take a break now and again.

I have long database processes that have to run at work so I tend to work and play at the same time. This works out well since I have two monitors.
